Y’all need to remember that BU and JW were able to find and successfully recruit OA and Chin in the first place. Yes, their stock has risen (as has ours) but let’s not act like there’s no nose for quality assistants in CU.

And now there’s more money.

It's all a matter of perspective and Illini fans are like pre-2016 Cubs fans.
With success comes confidence. Figuritively, we just won our first race and we're starting to believe. Not a perfect analogy but anyone whomever has been a runner in that same situation would agree.

Chat would be a GREAT addition. However, we do need a coach for "bigs" - essentially to replace OA. It is what it is.

Chet and Mennenga would be fantastic additions.

Supposedly, VA Tech fans love him and think he's a big reason for the talent they have. He's said to be a very energetic recruiter that connects with the kids. He also recruited Storr, I think.
I'm not that familiar with VT, didn't really watch them this year, so I ask in all sincerity, what talent do they have?

What I'm seeing is, he got there in 2019, the 2020 class was ranked 8th in the ACC (40th overall) and the 2021 class is ranked 13th in ACC (85th overall). Even if he led the recruitment on every one of those players, that seems pretty meh to me. They finished third in the ACC this year, which is fine, but the ACC was also a huge mess, so grain of salt. Other than the fascination with hiring an alum, and that Frazier as a person is someone we all understandably want to root for (myself included), what am I missing here as far as his value as a replacement to our two best recruiters?

Another coach to keep an eye out for (Tre Mitchell coach)

10-15 schools have called AJ Storr this week...including one Big Ten school. The blue bloods are coming for him.

Just a few weeks ago, we were talking about what we should be willing to consider to get Mitchell here. And there was no way we were going to send any of our assistant coaches packing just to bring in a single transfer. Now the situation's changed for us quite a bit. If all three are on the verge of heading out the door, do we reexamine making a move to bring Mitchell in? With what we will already have on our roster, if we can also line up Mitchell next to Kofi, we could have a monster year. And doing so would shut down any chatter about the assistant coach exodus being a setback for the program.

He's an associate head coach at VT. He's probably not coming here for a third assistant spot.
Ok.....then I would say he is a step or 2 back from what we are losing. And....he adds nothing in Chicago.

I think he is a safe hire because he is an alum.

I would guess if he's hired, he's not here to be the Chicago recruiter, at least initially. Just my opinion.

Understand......but I don’t think he at the level of OA or Chin.....nor does he help in Chicago.

just my opinion.....maybe he will be great. I would have thought we were shooting for some higher profile guys.

Ultimately you never know about as an asst coach until they get into the job. There was ALOT of consternation about hiring Jerrance after Tracy Webster went to Kentucky. Turns out, Jerrance was ultimately one of the top recruiting assts in the country.

Chin was not high profile when Underwood hired him.
That’s true......but we aren’t replacing the Chin of 4 years ago.

No knock on Chester.....if he is hired I hope he is great.

I guess my expectations were that we were going to go after some higher profile guys. That’s all. Hate to see our momentum slow.....maybe it is inevitable having to replace who we have to replace.

You are right. We have done well out east with recruiting. UMass coach could get us in to NY area?

Someone mentioned UK basketball once got the death penalty. It actually happened when Adolph Rupp was there.

"The players’ arrest led to an NCAA investigation of Kentucky, which also uncovered numerous rules violations, such as illegal payments to players and allowing ineligible athletes to compete. Things got so bad that the Wildcats were forced to cancel the entire 1952-1953
season, creating the first de facto death penalty in college basketball"
