I don't think Gentry is the main reason BU changed his system(s). In an interview around the time he made the change he said (I'm paraphrasing) that he would never let stubbornness get in the way of winning. People forget that in his year at OSU that his team struggled defensively and lost the first 6 games of Big 12 play. He made a defensive change that led them to making the NCAA tournament and during that stretch they were one of the hottest teams in college basketball (winning 10 of their next 11). I don't think BU let's himself get in his own way or in the way of his team winning. He's coached practically at every level and at every coaching position so I think if anyone would value the input of his staff, it would be him.

Gentry was on staff at OSU, but it was as player development, not coaching, although maybe he had Brad's ear then too.

Here's a good article about the defensive change at OSU and another offensive turnaround he was a part of as an assistant under Frank Martin.
BU sure let stubbornness stop him from switching out of those ball-screens in the 2nd half of the round of 32 a few weeks ago...

Maine to Miami covers a lot of territory. Care to share any more info? Maybe what conference this coach is in now? What colors they wear, etc.?

What’s Kevin Garnett doing these days. This would be a great little hobby for him.

I wonder if Stubblefield hadn’t left for DePaul, if Mennenga to Illinois would be more likely. Have to figure Oregon is fighting tooth and nail not to lose another AC this off season.

I imagine it would have to be more than money for Mennenga to leave Oregon; the Ducks have Nike money.

Probably would never happen but this would be a monster hire. Would be a great teacher of big men and probably an even better recruiter. He doesn't even have to speak. His history speaks for itself on the recruiting trail.

Would UK take Podz? I’m thrilled we got him and think he has the chance to be very good, but based on his level of competition I feel like we had some questions about his ability to compete at this level. Just seems like too big of a stretch for UK to me. Hope I’m right

Reading the tea leaves, looks like Chester Frazier may be on board soon. Makes a lot of sense if you look at his recent liked posts on twitter as well (AJ Storr's mom was one).
I know nothing of Chet's coaching career, but I sure loved him as a player for us.
If he coaches with the same intensity that he played, that would be nice to watch, too, especially on defense.

It is even more massively important now that Trent and Monte are coming back with 2, and potentially 3, new ACs on the bench next year. They obviously have a lot of value on the court but their presence off the court is going to be so important to keep up our momentum. Great (super) senior leaders to have around to build a bridge to the next coaching regime.
Could Tyler Underwood be a Grad Assistant/Coach? That certainly couldn't hurt.

I have not read anywhere that he was being actively pursued while convincing players to commit to Illinois. Nor have I read that he told recruits he wasn't going anywhere. People get offered jobs all the time and sometimes they take them. We don't need to read anything nefarious into this.
As soon as I look up nefarious I'm going to like this post.

Some UK fans have heavily intimated that losing Podz to us was one of the catalysts for shaking up their coaching staff and specifically targeting Chin as a recruiter. It sounds like Chin really impressed the right people when he helped reel in Podz.

He could be but I don't think that's the answer. He's not walking in and making an impact on recruiting.
Will Bailey seems like a natural fit. IDK if he wants to switch jobs again so soon but it gets him back to the Midwest.

Hopefully the Miles Smith experiment has soured the athletic department about putting the coach's kid into a valuable coaching position with zero experience. I'm all for it if he's interested in being a GA but not the assistant coach position.
