Throwing out a name here for reactions; and, perhaps, someone on this forum will have more information. Joining the Illini coaching staff is...

James Augustine

Quoting his wikipedia page (no citation given):
'On 20 October 2019, at age 35, Augustine announced that he would retire from professional sport. “In summer I thought it was too much. Now I am enjoying life after active sport. I had a very long career," he said.

Augustine has expressed a desire to be a coach in the future.'
I think Augustine should be involved in the program. Too green to start out as a coach, although that doesn't stop alums at Duke and they have a pretty good program, so I've heard. Maybe take Alexander's position if he is in fact promoted, or maybe assistant strength and conditioning coach. I am sure he could help in some capacity, especially teaching bigs. No one could run -- as a big man -- like James Augustine.

Also, Brain Randle is in second year as a coach currently with the Phoenix Suns who are in the midst of a great year. May be hard to convince Brain to leave the pros and Phoenix to come back to college and Champaign. Worth at least a phone call.

Staff is in place and signed. Cannot say who but he comes from a more than solid program and we stole him.
Trust me he’s a massive hire!! University starts with a C.
Chaminade, College of Charleston? "University of ..." preceding the C or starts with C?

Come on. Did Dishwhite just make something up to get people to start more fake conversation. If he did, I fully support it. We needed a little spice
No idea. But I know Kareem Richardson’s name has been tossed out there…

Guys, Jesus, we just hired an alum as an assistant coach. Please tell me what other other top program has multiple alums on their 3 person staff? I guess Duke but that’s gotta be it. It’s not a thing and I’m honestly annoyed continuing to have to read about it here. There are more talented and experienced coaches out there than Brian Randle and James Augustine and that don’t have to WaNt To Be HeRe or are aPaRt Of ThE fAmIlY. Please find a new slant

Are you saying Dick Bender is better than OA?
A NLI is no matter for Dick Bender. Once he has a recruit cornered, his will is not his own.

I appreciate your comment OldYeller and I agree James Augustine should not start out as a coach. But, if he's interested, I don't see a problem starting him out in a non-coaching position, especially if he can help with teaching bigs. As it relates to Brian Randle, how do we know he's not a good coach? He's got a couple of years coaching in the pros and several years playing professional ball. If he can teach what was (intense, great defender), and what he has learned in his playing and coaching career, that sounds like the makings of a good coach. Who knows, maybe Brad called him and he said he wasn't interested in coaching in college. We're just all spit-balling and having fun. In business we're taught to look at best practices of successful organizations and try to emulate where possible. Duke has been successful having alums as their assistants. The one difference is that the alums all played for K and are well equipped to teach and coach Duke principals. Maybe Brad can start grooming 'his' former players. Maybe bring back Aaron Jordan as a grad assistant; DaMonte next year is he decides not to play professionally somewhere. That's one way successful cultures are built and sustained.

I know one thing for sure, I'll be glad when this is over. My wife just came in and gave me the side-eye as I am not ready to go out for Mother's Day. Spending way too much time on this board worrying about 18-year-olds and their college choices and where grown men will work next year. Got to go and get ready. See you all in a few hours when I get back.
