So if CY can recruit 5 stars to FSU of all places, he's definitely gotta be able to recruit them to Illinois right?
FSU has been putting guys in the league pretty consistently for the last decade or so. Not saying that Cy can’t recruit here or that can’t be us, but we certainly don’t have that reputation.

That's kinda like saying OA won't be as effective when not at UK only FSU is no UK. Cy was on the FSU staff for all of that putting guys in the league. He has been there for quite a while.

He is extremely well connected and well respected. The dude can freaking recruit with the best of them.

He got FSU guys like Dwayne Bacon, Malik Beasley, Terance Mann, Jonathan Isaac, MJ Walker, Patrick Williams, Scottie Barnes, Matthew Cleveland, Caleb Mills just to name a few...

If I am reading what you're typing correctly, that's a pretty elite list of talent.

OA will absolutely be missed....but there is no way anyone could convince me that this potential group will not be better than OA, Chin, and Gentry.

Chet is being a little underappreciated on this board so far. Cy is easily a 1a type choice for me. Don't mind the other "misses" at all if he says yes.

I happen to agree with you. One thing, however --- you have to also consider the draw of the head coach. L. Hamilton, Juwan Howard, Patrick Ewing, Shaka, and Penny are going to inherently get a lot of kids that other programs simply will not.

Still trusting Brad to hire the right guys.

If we fill out the staff with Young and Irvin, that's an A team. Very impressive regardless, but in the context of losing all our ACs, it's mega impressive.

One final thought: don't sleep on Alexander.

CY has been at FSU for the last decade pretty much, so you'd think he'd be part of the reason they have that rep for recruiting/developing guys who make the league no?

I have to believe that is intentional to some extent.
i would not at all be surprised if it's the same number that was offered to Chin to stay. BU basically telling JW - if we can't get Chin to stay with the pool you were able to put together, I want to make sure we apply it fully to whoever else we hire to reduce the chance we get a repeat of what just happened. And, thus, goes up the market value of assistant coaches.

If we see a larger than expected number for the proverbial "OA replacement," would further validate that theory.
