One of KY's requirements is "to be a good bag man" and nobody can deny Chin's bag man abilities.
I’m not following all you are saying. What was Chin lying about wrt Miller? I know you’ve said he overstated our position with recruits, but were there other things? I know you may not want to comment on everything. Also this is the first I’ve heard the bag man comment regarding Chin.

The players/recruits say good things about the visit/coaches at every stop. Don't be taken in. They play us for a fool and hop each teams forum to see us go crazy about what they said.
Or they are just kids. Getting the attention of a visit and being recruited is exciting and gets kids hyped up. Of course they are going to say good things immediately following a visit.

I agree it’s folly to put much weight on the comments we hear after visits, but that’s on us, not the kids.

Chin was certainly less than a 6 to anyone outside of MIF. He didn't do well beyond those circles and if his lying in the Miller situation was true he struggled with that one. He was right in the middle of the THT debacle. His coaching skills were suspect and certainly his evaluation skills were not strong. Chester is a a huge upgrade to Chin.

100% agree, I don't think any of his recruits are even on the team anymore besides Hawkins... I'm not going to count BBV or Lieb because let's just be honest with ourselves here, neither is going to touch the court.

I see 247 gave Chin credit for getting Skyy Clark... LOL he had nothing to do with getting him.

Nutt, I love you man, but you are comparing the coaches after they were here for 4 years with the new ACs at the beginning of their tenure. A fair comparison is how you felt about OA and Chin when they were first hired to how you feel about the new ACs.
Exactly.

Candidate A:
Age-43 (estimate)
Prior AC experience (oldest to most recent) -
- 1 season Mountain West Conference
- 3 seasons Missouri Valley Conference
- 2 seasons Horizon League

Candidate B:
Age - 35
Prior AC experience -
- 7 seasons Big 12
- 2 seasons ACC (associate head coach)

Now, Candidate B has a far more substantive resume and he's younger.

Wasn’t Chin the recruiter for Podz and Storr? There’s no doubt OA did the heavy lifting.

But...losing the 3 AC's we are "starting over." For the past couple years the only one I cared about was OA. The others were just "tag alongs." Getting into the NY/East Coast went a long way to our team last year.

You are getting off your own topic here. You were comparing our new hires to our old ACs and rating the new ones on the beginning of their tenure here vs the old ones on the end of their tenure. That is what I was responding to.

Also, Chester Frazier has a ton of East Coast ties.

If we were totally happy with our 2 AC's we wouldn't be sooo "uptight" about the next hire. As an AC I give Chester a 4 (scale of 1-10 with 10 being a "GRAND SLAM.") As far as Alex goes maybe 2.5. What we lost (and the players they brought in) verus what we have is like comparing Milford to Las Vegas on things to do!?
Don't say we. You aren't happy with the 2 assistants and you're entitled to your opinion. I think that both are going to be very good and will help Illinois in recruiting and teaching. If Underwood does bring in an assistant with the ability to recruit nationally, this will be a better staff than the last one.

Thank you for comments. Coleman's becoming a legend in some posters mind. I don't care if Coleman is now working for Kentucky, he's a mid major type of assistant. No one knows except Ayo and his family, but was Coleman the reason he came to Illinois or would he have come even if Coleman wasn't an assistant?

OA=9.5 (he brought in some incredible talent) Chin=8 (always need to get a guy who is "in good" with Chicago coaches...we have had a "Chicago Connection Coach" almost every year dating way back to Lou Henson's early days)
Coleman wasn't "in good" with Chicago coaches, he was in good with the Fire. If Coleman was an 8 in your estimation, why was he at UIC? And if you rate Antigua as a 9.5, why was he available when Underwood hired him? If he was so highly thought of, why didn't Cal bring him back to Kentucky? Why didn't another blue blood hire him? He brought in talent, but when I think of "incredible", I think of 5* and how many of those did he recruit to Illinois? Also, Underwood has been in the coaching business for about 35 years, so I think he knows something about good assistants and since he hired Frazier and Alexander, I'm good with them.
