July 7th/8th is the day to watch. That is the deadline for withdrawal from the draft.

Maybe, but I guess whether he needs to depends on whether you are in the camp that thinks he already has his guy and it's a timing issue (as both he and Whitman insinuated) or the camp that things all is hopelessly lost and no one in Bielfeldt Athletics Administration Building has any idea what they're doing.

That will be the day we learn which possible transfers may come our way........but I believe our next coach will be honoring his commitment to train his particular clients all the way up to draft day. I'll stick to last week in July or 1st week in August for an anoouncement.

If it is truly another month until the coach would start then that is a good enough reason to not hire that assistant IMO. At that point, he will have missed probably the most important 2-3 month period for a year of his job.

Anderson can train them and be an AC here. He has done it at Depaul previously. What he couldn't do as an AC is talk to kids that are not in the transfer portal about what they are thinking if they don't stay in the draft. All of the potential violations and tampering go away when the pros and amateurs are separated on the 8th. They could wait a week just for optics.

I really really like adding Nick Irvin to the staff. His ties to Mac Irvin Fire are second to none. I would not mind him being the 3rd AC. But if you can add him and a 3rd assistant, it would be great. If NI is Assistant to the Head Coach, he could follow Geoff Alexander's path and become an Assistant in a few years. I like that Brad will not let an assistant linger and not produce. It is what have you done for me lately.

Hypothetical: Let's say it is Brian Randle. Would there be any reason why he couldn't be announced and continue his role for the Suns until their season is over? In the meantime Underwood could tell recruits, "Hey, watch our guys on the bench in the NBA Finals. He'll be your coach here."

Wouldn't want the distraction on an NBA finals run.
