Interesting that Ryan Evan (on Twitter) seems to be hearing it’s more likely to be Brian Randle now but still a chance at Irving. I’d think Brian would want a true assistant position being he’s currently in the NBA? I think I’d personally have Irving
My shoe told me it would be Irvin. Not sure which one to believe.

TC, what do you think about the decision from Brian...if it’s true...to leave an NBA assistant position to be the 4th assistant at Illinois? Seems like a step down for him, no?
What are the duties of an nba assistant. Maybe he is ready for a change of lifestyle

Since Sturdy said this morning it is not Irvin, sounds like it has shifted to Randle. This would be interesting and likely a step down. Hmmm.

The salary would not be a step down, as I previously thought. Since NBA head coaches make in the Millions, I thought the assistants made Bank too. My Bad.

If true, it seems Randle would be a huge hire for this role. Seems amazing the salary average noted. Definitely a step up there, and a great get for us in that role. He brings a lot to the table and a nice rounding out of the staff, imho. Just flashing that NBA championship ring would get attention.

According to a Washington Post article from New Year’s Day 2019, salaries range from $100,000 to over $1 million depending on coaching experience.

Seems to be a very wide range, so who knows.

I checked salaries for assistant NBA coaches. The average salary is $39 K. Not a lot of money in todays college market. Randle could get a nice bump at Illinois. Whitman is not afraid to pay for top coaches.

This can’t be correct, right? If the average was $39K that means some of the coaches make LESS than that. (In order for that number to be the average)

If the coach had a family…he’d be approaching the poverty line with a salary less than 39K. (I think the poverty line is in the 20s)

I’d think the NBA is worth too much for such low salaries.

I'm guessing you missed a zero.
It just came from a flat-out wrong website: https://careerexplorerguide.com/nba-coach-salary/

I don't know how I missed knowing about the NBA teams in Vermont and Hawaii.

Assistant NBA Coach Salary In Different States

Even though an average salary of an assistant NBA coach is $39,226 but there are some states in the US where assistant coaches are paid quite well. Have a look at the list of the top 10 highest paying cities of assistant NBA coaches:

  1. Napa, CA – $56,000
  2. Cottage Grove, MN – $49,000
  3. San Antonio, TX – $48,000
  4. Urban Honolulu, HI – $44,000
  5. New Brunswick, NJ – $41,000
  6. New London, CT – $39,000
  7. Eugene, OR – $39,000
  8. Kingman, AZ – $39,000
  9. Detroit, MI – $39,000
  10. Burlington, VT – $38,000
That being said, I think it's safe to assume Randle is probably being paid $150K or less in Phoenix, and we could give him a big raise to move to Champaign.

The table above comes from here:

The same source also reports on what NBA towel-boys make:

It reports: Average Salary of an NBA Towel Boy in the US is $ 55,000 Per Year. The maximum salary given to an NBA Towel Boy is $90,000 and the minimum salary given to them is $30,000 Per Year.

I think there is something very wrong here.

Minimum salary sounds ok to me.......................

I wasn’t keen on Randle as an assistant coach, but would be a good add as assistant to head coach if Irvin is not a possibility. Irvin’s Chicago connections would be nice, but a Peoria guy who wore the orange and blue and can accessorize with an NBA championship ring certainly has appeal.

Maybe "Towel Boy" doesn't mean what we think it means?
