...DeBoer's hiring at Alabama would be the apex of a meteoric rise in coaching over the past few seasons for the South Dakota native. A record-setting receiver at the University of Sioux Falls, an NAIA program in his home state, DeBoer became head coach of his alma mater in 2005. Over the next five seasons, his teams went 67-3 and won three NAIA national championships in 2006, 2008 and 2009. The Cougars went 17-2 in the NAIA playoffs during DeBoer's tenure.

After working as an offensive coordinator at Southern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State and Indiana, DeBoer replaced Jeff Tedford as Fresno State's coach in 2020. The Bulldogs went 3-3 in the COVID-19-delayed season in 2020, then improved to 9-3 in his second season...

- Seems like a West Coast guy.
- He can retire at Washington.
- If he goes to BAMA he will be living in Bear Bryant and Nick Sabans shadow.
- How much money do you really need $8m/year at WA or $12M at BAMA
- I would stay at WA

Looks like DeBoer has been confirmed for Bama

Wait, I'm confused. Is Henry not expected to be DC anymore?

Hey, Washington AD.....there's an excellent coach in Lawrence, KS would be a great fit for Washington's brand from DeBoer staying on track and fitting within the Big Ten footprint.
first name I thought of
the other was Chadwell - not sure they take that chance tho

Leopold has done a fantastic job at Kansas. Similar to when Mike White turned Illinois around.

JMO - we never should have fired Mike. He had Jeff George coming in. Mackovic bailed for TX when the going got tough.

I think UW will promote their offensive coordinator - but I can't image the next blood blood job that comes open won't have Leopolds name on it. 20/20 hindsight is perfect but Leopold has outperformed Brett.

+$4M in Alabama is more like +$5M with the cost of living vs. Seattle. I'm not turning down a 50% raise either.

I do agree with those who say it's risky to follow directly in Saban's footsteps, but that money is just too good.

Our faithful and all knowing insiders,

I know you shared some big insight on Jim Leonhard's motivations at this point in his career. Do we know if he is at all being considered for the Washington HC job?

Washington athletic director Troy Dannen made an aggressive pitch to keep DeBoer, sources told Thamel, with a new contract that would make him one of the 10 highest-paid coaches in the FBS and more than double his current annual salary of $4.2 million.

I bet he is getting $12M at Bama. How much money is enough. If you don't win Natty at Bama the season is a failure.

I don't think any of us know the answer to that question . . .

DeBoer is a solid choice .
I am surprised we didn’t hear more about Kiffin tho .

No one has better PR than Kiffin

- He's never won a P5 conference championship (9 years in P5 and three different institutions)
- 2-12 career in regular season against teams ranked in the top-10 (for comparison, DeBoer went 3-1 this season against top-10 teams)
- His last win against a top-5 team? 13 years ago
- 5-25 in regular season against teams that finish the season in the top 25.
