I think they have no choice but to hand the reins over to Sherrone Moore, but for the next few years Michigan is going to without a doubt slot in beneath Ohio State and Oregon, probably under Penn State, maybe USC and most likely will be among the Iowas and Wisconsins. He might be able to build up his program to challenge for the Big Ten Title a few years away, but it certainly won't happen this year.

due to many various issues, the odds Moore has success there are small. Michigan has little choice but to give him a shot at it though.
Our timing of playing them next year is good, for once

Yeah, there is a small window to show promise beyond just a position coach or analyst. Very very competitive environment but also depends on who you know. Some can move down levels(like to FCS or lower) if they don't get a shot at moving up to FBS coordinator, or just stick to being really good at recruiting and developing a specific position(and still make more than enough money).

That is true. I'm sure they will be favored. But if things are going well for us we should have a shot getting a much coveted victory against them.

the NCAA supposedly has an arrangement with the NFL ( & NBA ?) where a suspension issued by NCAA is to be respected in the pro leagues .

I kinda doubt anything comes of the open investigation into the sign stealing tho

Haven't read it yet, but there's already precedent set for it, see: Terrelle Pryor.

from the article :

Back in 2011, Ohio State quarterback Terrell Pryor was facing a five-game suspension for trading memorabilia for cash and tattoos when he declared for the NFL supplemental draft. Commissioner Roger Goodell upheld the five-game suspension, saying in a then-statement: "This smacks of a calculated effort to manipulate our eligibility rules."
Tressel -- who also was suspended five games by Ohio State, but ultimately resigned as Buckeyes coach amidst the scandal -- had taken a game-day consultant job with the Colts, and the NFL's decision on Pryor raised questions. As is often the case with coaches, the league allowed the team to handle the case, and the Colts announced Tressel wouldn't be with the club until Week 7 of the 2011 season.

Well, fair enough! Lol

If I had to guess, based on looking at his history, I think this is just something a little different for him to try (their calling it defensive analyst). I certainly don't know, but isn't there some kind of rules about coaches under contract not making lateral moves? Maybe that's NFL stuff? If this is technically considered lateral, would Bret have to release him? If so, maybe Bret was fine with what Buh wanted to do, and graciously just did what was technically necessary. Semantics? I don't know?

He would entertain certain NFL jobs.
Would we have to make a position for Leonhard if the NFL route doesn't go as planned for him? I feel like he would not want to be an analyst for a second year. Or is keeping him at this point a pipe dream?

He wouldn’t want a job that pays him 100k a year that gives him the freedom to be how non Wisconsin 4 days a week? If him being an analyst was a huge problem for him he wouldn’t have turned down numerous DC jobs the past two years.

Okay point taken. I just assumed he'd want a promotion somewhere sooner rather than later. Would love him on the staff as long as he'd like before he takes the next step, whenever or wherever that is going to be.

He might be waiting to see if Fickell falls on his face or if Badger nation grows to dislike him. Feel like Jim bleeds red and would only move on to be a HC in college or apparently a DC in the NFL which might catapult him to HC in the NFL now that it seems more teams are hiring defensive minded coaches.

Haven't really heard any names for the last staff position.

Any feel for timing? Before NLOI Day on Feb 7 or after? Are we signing anyone that day?
