A long list of current head coaches that could be candidates for the Depaul job. I'm really not sure that Depaul in it's current state is a program that would be competitive for signing a top high mid-major coach; however, a former P6 coach who is looking for a rebound, or a coach of a low major with recent success and who would jump up to a P6 without an intermediary high mid major.

How many of these coaches would actually view DePaul as better than their current situation? Over/under at 2.5.

They got that Chip and Joanna Gaines money.
I have a friend who contributes big time to Baylor. He also keeps their Baylor Bear exhibit going which costs over $1M a year just for the upkeep/maintenance of the exhibit. Lots of money at Baylor.

Will Wade is the ideal fit. Slimy person that would fare well in Chicago recruiting. DePaul has nothing to lose in terms of risk. Good way for Wade to use this as a stepping stone job to a big program agains.

A Bruce Pearl type career arch.
can envision Wade getting 1-2 big recruits out of Chicago under questionable circumstances, turning it into an NCAAT appearance and then bolting for an actual high-major job

I’d guess over just because it’s a P6 job.

But there’s no way quite a few of those coaches would leave their current job for DePaul.

Depends on the pay check… I’m of the opinion that most D-I coaches don’t really consider they can’t win somewhere. They’ve won everywhere they’ve ever been, so why would the next school be different.

If paycheck is going up and next season is a little bit of a rebuild, make like Billie Joe and Bobby Sue…

Take the money and run.

Worst case scenario you hop back on the Mary go round in a few years with more money in your pocket. Nobody’s gonna say you couldn’t make it work at DePaul, so you can’t hack it at UT-Chattanooga.

Got my masters at Creighton, great Finance program. Lots of money there.

I hope we don’t meet in the tourney, a) because they’re good b) they’re my number 2!
Sounds like you and I have the same dilemma. Having obtained my Bachelor's degree at the University of Arizona, I cringe at the thought of the Illini playing the Cats on the hardwood...but no one pulls for an Illini victory in that battle more than I do.

It is pretty accurate to say I grew up on the hardwood courts of central Illinois and have been a fanatic Illini hoops crazy since the days of Govoner Vaughn and Chesty Potato Chips. I hate it when the Illini play Arizona, but my allegiance will always be to the Fighting Illini. Nevertheless, that gets thrown out the window for all other sports.

I doubt that DePaul would hire a coach subject to a show-cause order that does not expire until June 2025, but I guess stranger things have happened.

All the big-time programs are in there ...

As far as some programs that have a lot more than people realize: Creighton, Baylor, and Xavier ...
Indy, where does ND sit with NIL? They literally have billions in the bank and just turned down a legacy with a perfect ACT, meaning they pick and choose who they let in. Surely a smart AD there could turn that into a basketball powerhouse with that coach?

You guys are a wealth of information.

I’m just curious:

Which blue bloods have the deepest pockets? Is the top ten, about what you’d expect Kentucky? Puke? Any “new” bloods in that company that are surprising? Like KS (Bull Semen State) for example.
Used to be the big spender

Actually, l have never had a problem pulling for the Illini against the Cats when they play on the hardwood. I was at a restaurant where we were having a neighborhood function and lost interest....but with a hmmmmmmm regained my focus as the Illini started to close in. I stood up and shouted when they took the lead....and got many funny looks. It was magical.

Though I am proud and flattered to be a part of U of A athletics history, my youthful blood, sweat, and tears are scattered over the hardwood of East-Central Illinois gyms. Still, it is not an easy two hours for me when the Illini and the Cats meet on the hardwood, especially in the Big Dance.

Plus, I never liked Sean Miller from the start. I really like guys with character and ethics which I never saw in Miller, and do in BU.

Pat Kennedy was the beginning of their end IMO. Real flashy and got the big 3 ( Richardson,Williams,Simmons) for one quick run but never sustained. Side note: RIP Joey Meyer. Met him at a Subway restaurant in Chicago after he left DePaul.. hell of a nice guy ( at least in my interaction with him) .
Didn't Dave Leito do a great job there? Good enough to where he got an offer and an acceptance to Virginia?

Just by chance my son (10 at the time) and I sat next to Mrs. Jerry Wainwright at a game in Rosemont. What a potty mouth on her. And the rest of the arena was (as usual) dead silent. On a positive note, she did apologize to me for her antics after the game. We talked a bit, I mentioned that I was an Illini alum, and she then proceeded to launch into a tirade about our reluctance to schedule a game with DePaul. Fun time had by all.

The baseline level of attractiveness for people who make it to TV and movies is similar to baseline level of talent for players who make it to the pros. Literally the baseline is a different level.
I mostly agree. I will say though, never underestimate the power of proper lighting & makeup. Chip is a handsome dude. One of the first thoughts that crossed my mind when I met him was "ok, the man has fine lines and wrinkles just like any other human being approaching 50"... 2nd thought was "no staring at Joanna" :ROFLMAO:
