Personally I don’t think so. Just my opinion on what JW’s opinion will be. If he has any inclination to keep him, the excuses are there. If he fires him, he will have to make the case why the excuses aren’t valid. My current prediction is he will have 2 more years now. Next year’s team will likely still have some very veteran talent and the year after we will be pretty bad. Obviously a lot of things can change in 2 years. Hopefully for the better, but it’s not showing right now.
I don't like your opinion. There's no thumbs down option so that is all

Our attendance is the crapper and is only gonna continue declining if we stick to the status quo. Our game-day attendance (actual butts in the seats) has gone down almost 7,000 people in the last couple years.

2016- (30,875)
2017- (24,596)
2018- (22,074)
2019- (23,794)

That is a massive dip in attendance. Also our social media interactions are way way down. As someone who works in brand building i can tell you social media interactions are extremely important for seeing how many people are interested. The recruiting isn't going to improve with Lovie constantly being on a warm seat. To me Lovie is a band-aid, he's done his job in patching up the holes left by previous coaches and mike thomas. But in order to give some fresh life into the program and hopefully see an rejuvenated fan base, it is time we rip the band-aid off.
The point of diminished social media interactions is spot on. Can't seem to get my fix of Illini FB chatter anywhere these days.

Need a guy that can create some buzz, not just thru solid play on the field (and winning). That's not Lovie's strength. The erratic results also hamstring JWs efforts in that area. Ready to take it to the next level

Those numbers are eye-opening. Usually a coach doesn't keep his job with 2 seasons like that, let alone 4 straight. Barring winning 2 of the next 3, those numbers will not be any better next year, and that HAS to play a big part in the decision.

And it will. JW knows the numbers and the lack of interest. I know a person who works in the social media dept. and josh visits with her regularly about how many interactions the tweets are getting. He knows that 22,000 thousand people for a big 10 football game is atrocious. He's a smart guy and knows what the dangers are of bringing a lame duck coach back when the fans are done.

That is real dollars being lost. I just checked and the 2021 season tickets are starting at $999 each. Using that as a benchmark you are looking at nearly a $7 million drop in revenue, just from butts in the seats. That doesn't include the money they spend at the stadium. With that kind of money, it becomes an easy decision to buy Lovie out and move on.

Yes those dollars being lost are a crucial thing, and will be a much bigger factor then the record on the field. We need fan interest/donor dollars. I personally know multiple donors who have told whitman that their donations will be ceasing until a move is made. Texas is about to pay a 25 million dollar buyout for herman. A couple million should be no issue when you consider the financial implications of a apathetic fanbase.

That is an unbelievable stat. There are HS teams in Texas that draw more than that.

Clearly our appeal is becoming more selective.

Great point. Remember JW noted that the the best way to fix the gap between DIA revenues and expenses, was "butts in the seats". This gap is not going in the right direction, and that's before the pandemic hit, goodness.

Surprisingly it took almost two weeks after the beat down of Nebraska for the Lovie haters to go full throat again. Odds on their screeds after tomorrow’s win?

You just hit the nail on the head, the DIA is struggling. It is why I don't think we can be passive and stick to the status quo. If we are drawing 22,000 to begin next year, we are going to have to cut even more programs. If a new coach can bring some excitement (like lovie did in 2016) then the buyout will pay for itself with butts in the seats.

You're wasting your breath here. Go preach to the 40,000 would be fans who aren't attending games or so the high school athletes who won't give Lovie the time of day.

These stats aren’t accurate but the point of declining attendance is. Here are the real approx numbers:

2016 - 45,000
2017 - 39,000
2018 - 36,000

couldn't find 2019. Better numbers than posted but a severe and continuing decline.

No they are accurate. You are giving the paid attendance numbers, that is different then actual game day attendance. Here's a link to the article. This is the most shocking part of the whole article. "Kicking off the season against a team from a lesser league has helped the win-loss record, but not the gate. Since a turnstile count of 32,630 in Smith’s 2016 orange and blue debut against Murray State, home openers have drawn 28,006 (2017 vs. Ball State), 21,215 (2018 vs. Kent State) and 20,881 (2019 vs. Akron)."

The money that you are complaining about is still based upon ticket sales.

I have never thought Lovie was a good coach, even when he was with the Bears and Bucs. I was excited when he was hired because I thought our recruiting would improve by leaps and bounds. Except for the year immediately following the hiring of Patterson, that has not occurred. Bad coaching and bad recruiting is a bad mix. Zook was not a very good coach in my opinion, but at least he and his assistants could recruit ( and waterski) top recruits. I am ready to move on from Lovie.
