There may not be any rumblings of a coaching change, but remember that nobody had a clue that Underwood was even a candidate for the bball job until the day he was hired.
The day before Underwood was hired, I was watching his team in the NCAA Tournament in Indy. His team stayed at our hotel and departed that night. There wasn’t the slightest bit of a rumbling that Underwood was out the door. That was the most shocked I’ve been with a coaching search.

Massive credit to Whitman and Underwood for keeping that completely secret.

Give me coaches who love Illinois and the University. I don't want a retread coach, we will be the first to fire our new coach. I find it hard to believe we don't have a protector of the program like NU had and has in Fitz. We might in Nate, hopefully that relationship isn't broken. Give me the Rochester coach on staff, Holacek, JLemen, find a place for Reggie Corbin and Dre Brown, get Terry Hawthorne, keep Ligs, he is awesome. Everything should be on the table. Get us former Illini in the pipeline. Get coaches who know the college game for F's sakes.

I might be reading too much into this, but Jeremy Werner's tone regarding Whitman makes me believe there will be a change. Werner's the type that wouldn't start changing tone about coaching changes unless there was a good chance of them happening. He's basically challenging Whitman in his articles on 247.

we are paying a top 20 salary, the return on investment is a joke.
Kinda makes you wonder what Lovie and has Agent would command from the U of I for a winning record when they charge $5M for a sub 25% conference and 30% overall winning percentage thanks to victories over non conference juggernauts such as Kent State, Western IL, Murray State, Western KY, Akron & U Conn over the years

Lovie knows he's getting another year or we wouldn't have been milking clock with 5 mins left down 3 scores.

IF JW is going to make move on Lovie when would it likely be? Today, tomorrow, next Sunday, or sometime after that? Not sure if there are financial considerations on letting him go over the next month.

I believe March 1 is when the buyout changes to $1M. My guess is shortly after the last game JW will have to say something one way or the other.

For what it's worth, I believe we could get any assistant in the country for what Lovie gets.

Just curious - if some big donors pony up buyout $s, are they somewhat involved in the selection of a new HC? Would seem they would need some assurances that the situation will be vastly improved

I have no sources other than what I read, but yes there is at least some input from a few donors. It may be as simple as, “If you go after this guy, I’ll pitch in.” It’s a slippery slope. We need their help, but we can’t have them calling the shots either.

I think I'm all in on Leipold but want his whole staff too. 🙏

I think we will see a move. Josh has been in contact with donors since yesterday. Lovie’s attitude toward getting crushed yesterday was the sealing of his fate imo.
Didn’t see/read anything post game. Can you please elaborate?

Do any of the assistants get buyouts if they are fired and not retained by a new staff?

Does Lovie have any obligation to mitigate damages by looking for another job if he is fired?

My apologies for two questions.

Link to press conference. I have not watched it yet.

At least Lovie looks better without the beard.

In my mind only reason to be in contact with donors after yesterday is to find the dollars for a buy out and talk about a new coach. Is that what you’re saying?
