At Northwestern the fans at least show up when the team is decent, and you have Chicago in your back pocket. Penn State is in the middle of nowhere, arena is empty even if they are good.
But at least it's historically easier to win at PSU. Recency bias makes NW look better, buts it's basically been a dumpster fire of a job.

If Underwood stays, the team needs to go to the Sweet Sixteen or more or else it may actually be his final season next year. Next year is very important. The fanbase isn’t going to be too happy if they are one and done again or don’t get past the second round or miss it entirely.
Especially if better coaching options are available....

Perhaps there should be a coaches transfer portal or the ‘ole tweet “BRAD’s BAAAACK!!!!”
Just be thankful for your 4. whatever million, take some anger management courses and quit running off players, implement some type of offense, and win 2+ games minimum every year in the NCAA tournament

Tru dat. However, the property taxes are much higher generally, which bite back hard (in larger cities and burbs, at least). I speak from past experience. I saw an analysis 10-15 yrs ago that it was a wash compared with many states having income tax. Am interested to hear from Texans on the board what the sitch is these days.
I will say our property taxes in blono were higher than north Dallas.

I'm gonna say, Kelvin Sampson to Texas, BU to Houston. This could come true especially if Houston makes it to the Final Four. They'd have to be the favorite since it's in Houston.

EDIT: Or someone else to Houston and BU backfills that position.

EDIT 2: I am NOT an insider. I'm an outsider!
Me as well…

Is Penn St to NOtre Dame THAT big of an upgrade?
It isn't. Penn State's a terrible job because the fanbase doesn't care about basketball to an unusually significant degree, but Notre Dame isn't far off on that score and is also in a tough conference and recruiting territory.

Nonetheless, for an Indiana guy whose stock is high and who would be stuck replacing his whole team next year and rebuilding from scratch at PSU, it's a pretty understandable move.

Honestly Mike Brey would not be a crazy PSU candidate at all, that would actually be kinda smart.

Everything will be a lot clearer after this week
As I said the other day, it's not a question of who's got the super secret inside information, the situation at Texas is unknowable even to the principal individuals involved. The games still to be played matter.

This time next week, the situation will have revealed itself at Texas. And if there's no open Texas job, there's no carousel for anybody to ride. Penn State, Texas Tech and Providence aren't causing a cascade.

He said he hadn't heard any rumors anywhere but here, and that's clearly not the case. Who said anything about whether the rumors are true or not? And I'll trust our insiders, who have said things have been happening.

Feel free to ignore. I do not care.
It wasn't a comment directed at you, but more at the Twittersphere. No offense intended.

I lived just outside of Houston for four years, and while the Texas sales tax is Texas-sized, property tax in Texas is about half of that from Illinois. And every state adds hidden taxes disguised as "fees" that add to the burden, but there is a reason Kiplingers ranks Illinois as the least tax friendly state for middle income earners, and the burden only rises as incomes levels rise.

I live in NH now, and the tax burden (especially for retirees like me 😎) is ludicrous as everything is loaded on property taxes here. Politicians tout the "NH Tax Advantage" when in reality they shift almost 100% of the tax burden on property owners. It's enough for me to look at going back to either Texas or Florida.
I only have homes in Florida and Texas. Typically those from Illinois, who buy in Florida do so to avoid state Income taxes. I don't have that issue, and it's hard for me to see the difference in tax burden between Texas and Florida.
