I have a few additional issues:

*Losing to practically every "rival" we have this season:
**Mizzou (x1) (most painful of all to me personally)
**Iowa (x1)
**Ohio State (x1)
**Northwestern (x1)
**Purdue (x1)
**Indiana (x2)
*Losing to Penn State 3 Times in one season
*Looking sloppy and disconnected most of the second half of this season
*Digging ourselves into huge first half holes all season
*Higher than expected season to season player turnover
*Higher than expected season to season AC turnover
*Frequent over-the-top dressing down of players during games

Regarding the last one, I'm 57; no millennial. As a confident and competent person, I don't respond to that. If we have players that are doing things that are so far off base from what you are asking them, sit them at the end of the bench and ignore them until they ask why they're there. Explain why. Rinse. Repeat once. Replace them with a walk-on.

I was a big BU supporter until this season, but the frustration I felt watching this team was mid numbing.

All that said, I still think BU could do big things here with some adjustments. But if you tell me you're in your dream position and then act otherwise, and we have an "elite" level replacement ready to sign on, sign me up.

This. These skids, individually aren't a problem. But as a whole it is pretty troubling. There is no reason Mizzou should be this unbeatable for us.

John Groce or 2nd phase Bruce Weber would have loved 21-13 NCAA bid wins over UCLA and Texas. Might have helped them keep their job. If this is new Brad Underwood floor I am OK with it. We just need more ceiling seasons like #1 seed 2021 and B10 Champions 2022.

Brad has proven very adaptable
post 2021 - losing all 3 assistant coaches and #1 recruit Miller - added Plummer, Still won B10

post 2022 - full of transfer portal, start of NIL, reloading after losing 85% of team to graduation plus Andre and Pods to portal. Added TSJ Dainja MM and Skyy

Post 2023 - semi-disappointing season after great start, failure of switching defense, chemistry issues with senior transfer portal add and heralded freshman mid season departure. What will he do?

JMO
we had 4 impact first year players.
- Dainja - solid B10 center with great upside. Needs to improve defense outside of lane so he does not have to play drop coverage.
- Sencire - phenomenal defender. Great athleticism. Need to work on jump shot.
- Jayden - great scorer, very poised. Ran out of gas at end of season.
- Ty - great rebounder, good ball handler. Need to work on mid range jump shot.

Sophomore Slump
- RJ never got comfortable shooting. Great athleticism. Missed Trent, DaMonte feeding him.
- Luke - injury destroyed season.

These 6, If they all come back plus Nico and Amari form solid core.

Seniors
- Coleman, very talented but frustrating player. Like his defense, ball handling, energy and rebounding. Tries too hard passes so too many turnovers. Erratic scorer. he should not shoot logo 3 pointers. Wished he took it to the basket more. Showed flashes of post game. I think he should come back for his senior year. I just think he needs more playing time develop and playing college is better than playing g-league or overseas.

- TSJ. Great athlete but struggles to create his own shot and cannot finish in lane. If it is me I would stay another year to keep working on my game but it is possible he is at his ceiling in which case he should go pro.
This is where I'm at. If this is our new floor (or at least close to it) under BU, then that's fantastic as long as he can continue to raise our ceiling to regularly be in the second weekend of the tournament and occasionally beyond.

If this is more the new normal then that's a problem, but we don't have nearly enough data to claim that.

Brad took a dumpster fire of a program to a winning one.
Would have made four straight NCAA T. births if not for Covid shut down. Who knows what would have happened that year. That team was clicking.
Loyola year ending poorly.
Last years team was unfortunately hobbled by Grandisons shoulder injury, and Trents pink eye. And their ceiling was never that high to begin with. (Dunk or Three ball)
Point is every team Underwood has coached going back to SFA has gotten significantly better throughout the year until this one. Why are we using this year as the norm.

Wow, this thread is pretty unbelievable, like the creation story, making something out of nothing.

JW knows more, makes more $$ and has more authority in this matter than ALL of the insiders, outsiders and j### sniffers combined.

Until he officially goes on the record, this is a couple hundred screens of what we used to call mental mas$&#@*$ion

Well good afternoon to you too sir 🎩

It seems as though some of our readers may need to borrow Pru’s meds to learn more about the realities of the business side of college bball 💵 @pruman91

Underwood is deserving of some of the criticism. No doubt about that. You can't continue to come out flat in the NCAA tournament 3 years in a row. But, let's also be real, this program was in a bad place during the John Groce years. We were an afterthought, we were mediocre, we were begging for a tournament appearance. So, to be where we are and where we were, I think some fans need to have some perspective and realize that the sky isn't falling and that although the experiment wasn't fully successful, Underwood still put together an NCAA tournament in a season where we lost almost everyone from last year.

The bar has been set high with a #1 seed that was achieved 2 years ago. Is the expectation of Sweet 16s and Elite 8s unrealistic? Absolutely not. But, is it fair to throw the coach who put us back on the map under the bus? I don't think so. Some people need to be careful what they wish for. Illinois has been used as a stepping stone by some coaches in this century and I would not want Sean Miller to be hired knowing full well that he would bolt for a better opportunity almost immediately.

(a) You don't know that. And

(2) It's this type of thinking that put us into this mess after Self left. Oh, and

(c) No one is saying we should fire Underwood due to a difficult year this year. Hell, no one is saying to fire him at all (except a few restless souls). But a lot of us ARE saying you don't keep a coach around simply because he's a step up from the craptastic years we had at the end of Weber's tenure/most of Groce's tenure. At the end of the day, the question for Whitman will be: is Underwood living up to the bar we have set for him at Illinois? Plain and simple. If he is, great. He'll probably stay as long as he wants to. If not, at some point, you cut bait and try again.

You're going to believe whatever you want even though the facts have been stated on here multiple times you just refuse to change your thoughts because they don't fit your narrative. You have no idea what goes on behind the scenes so I'm not gonna deal with dumbassery from you.
The “facts” are the ones I posted. Everything else stated here is hearsay, and man behind the curtain tactics. Sure, there may be truth to what you’re saying but the “trust me, I know secrets” argument isn’t convincing with very visible issues in the program and lack of postseason success.

Also, your personal insult just weakens your position. If I’m such a dumbass then these patterns across multiple years should all have an explanation beyond bad luck, and disgruntled parents.

Sean Miller and loyalty don't come to mind. If he had the opportunity, he would bolt for Pitt in a second and he would consider Kentucky if the opportunity came up. Underwood is a fine coach. Is he an elite coach, probably not. But what elite coach is coming to Illinois? I'll be waiting for your answer. Maybe you need to re-evaluate your expectations. Sounds like the same people who thought Shaka or Brad Stevens would come to Illinois. I for one, am happy that Shaka never set foot in Champaign.

Sean wouldn’t take Pitt … What coach wouldn’t take UK if offered the job lol …

That doesn’t have much to do with loyalty …

I wouldn't trust a coach who just got a 2nd chance from the program that gave him his big break and then he bolts for another program within 1-2 yrs. C'mon now? Does it really take much to read between the lines there?

My hope for Sean Miller is that he repays the loyalty to Xavier and stays there for a while
