Honored to be mentioned among that list of names lemme tell you…

Offensively it’s hard man. Is a lack of a point guard why we didn’t run stuff? Is it because BU gives his guys freedom to make reads if they see something, so maybe they don’t run it as designed? Do they not run it because they just don’t want to? Do they not run it because the other team guards well enough to stop us from running it?

Probably some of all of it.

I felt there were times we ran some stuff well enough and bricked the open shot. I thought Arkansas could guard us one on one so we couldn’t run much. I think it’s natural for most players to press and try to do too much when you miss the shots that the play is designed to get you.

There’s are multiple points in any game where the offense breaks down, and you just need your dude to go get you a bucket. We didn’t consistently have that dude. You can be okay without that dude, if you got 5 guys who are threats and it can be any one of them at any time. But we didn’t have that either.

Defensively, I actually really liked us pressing, but I get stopping it with the concern of our depth. Besides Coleman, idk that anybody was consistent defensively.

Honestly, my team was alot like us this year too (we also didn’t have a true pg, and couldn’t consistently hit a shot, so maybe that’s the answer right there). Inconsistent, to flashes of brilliance, to wondering if these guys have ever played basketball before. So I’m just happy all this $hi+ is over with lol. Let’s move on to next year.
This whole post is so good. Thank you, coach. Basketball is a complex sport played by complex young men. No easy answers!

Thanks for the diagnosis and glad to see you mention the press. I haven't seen it mentioned previously but also thought dropping it when we lost our guard depth hurt us. The press forced us to have a bit more energy early, and really unlocked Sencire's skill set.

YUP....always wondered once you get to the 4.5 million per year plateau....what's the big deal about making 5.2? You already got homes, cars and more...
It depends where you want to live / retire.

In CU, a single payment of 4.5M may last a lifetime if you don't have kids (~2.5M post taxes). [500k for a nice house/cars. 1M if you really go high end. 2M in the bank is 60-70k/year/life (45-50k/yr if you went high end). That is a pretty modest living after paying taxes and unsubsidised personal health insurance for a couple (20k/yr).] Two years at 4.5M is certainly enough, even with kids.

In CA, 5.2M is ~2.5M after taxes (yes, over 50% in fed/state taxes) On top of that houses in the nicer (not nicest) parts of LA and San Fran-San Jose run ~10x the CU price. You can't buy a 1800sqft house in a good neighborhood for 2.5M unless you want an hour commute each way, or to look straight into your neighbors window (and maybe not even then). Yes, it is insane. Many of the people making 400k a year in these areas have a lower standard of living than those making 125k/year in CU. Families earning 100k/year get food stamps. You might be able to retire young after 3 years at 5.2M. It probably takes 4. I repeat. It is insane. (The average rent for a 1bdrm apt is over 40k/year locally. I don't want to know what it is in the really nice neighborhoods.)

I tell the kids who come out for the jobs to work here for 5 years, save as much as they can, and then move away with a great start on life. If they stay longer, then they start to put down roots and moving away becomes much harder.

I guess what this really says is that retiring young is expensive. Living in LA or SF-SJC is really expensive. The money can matter depending on your goals and age.

It also helps your halfcourt defense when the offense is calling their play with 18 seconds left on the shot clock vs. 25.

2.5M after tax you can retire anywhere you want. The only factor is how big a house do you need. Not sure where you call "here". I had a 3 bedroom 1700sqft house in San Jose for $30k/yr. In a nice area. Recently. Not east side.

[I asked for more info privately. This is way outside of what I see.]

Great post. My son is in Vista now finishing school and working. It takes 4 incomes to pay the rent in Cali for a 2 bedroom apartment and have money to live decent. Hes been there 2 years now, hope he comes back before he gets his roots too deep.

He should stay at FAU. Basically his whole team is back next year barring any portal entries and they should be back in the tourney next year. This team is no fluke, they are really talented and would hold their own in any high major conference.
If you win a natty at FAU, where else could the players portal to to “prove themselves?” Quite frankly, just by getting to the Final Four they’ve already done that.

I don't mind the press at this level when you are just a notch better every where, but I don't think it is sustainable in the B1G. When the scout gets out at this level, it is over. It even started to break down towards end of non con. If I remember correctly, we were still pressing against Missouri and got absolutely torched.

Speaking of press, the Ohio St. women were poetry to watch in their press against UConn today.

Fuggles was kind enough to provide a rough location. I think they would get sticker shock if they tried to move back. I searched redfin for 1700sqft+ house on a 6500sqft+ lot** in a 2 mile radius. (My initial search requiring a 8000sqft lot found only one match.***) The houses found are running 1.4M-1.6M. Redfin says the mortgage is 9-10k/month assuming 20% down and good credit. (108k-120k/year). Nope, can't retire young there with only 2.5M. It isn't close.

** 6220sqft is 1/7th an acre

*** The one larger house/lot was a mile away in a neighborhood called "The Woods". It was a 4500sqft house on a .75 acre lot for only 2M (400k down, 13k/month mortgage). Not bad. Not bad at all.

A couple of observations here…

1. Is it wrong if I only want a read Post from 4040, lville, or DB and skip all other posts?? 😁😁

2. I have inferred from reading this thread and the Illinois basketball thread that BU will be back next year. I say that because, It seems like from posts from our insiders we may already have a transfer coming in for next year. Normally that doesn't happen unless the coach is going to stick around.......

With whatever happens I can continually say that Loyalty is never boring

I think KSU will work hard to keep Tang. Saw clip of him going to FAU locker room after game. Really classy guy....at the same time Tang will likely get "courted".
Tang seems awesome but didn’t we roast Cream when he showed up in our locker room after beating #1 IU?

It’s mentioned in the Illinois version of Beyond Big 10 basketball (or something like that) which is an interesting listen of mostly former players perspective around the league.
