I’m starting to understand this Seven year itch thing. 🤣

Brad’s doing a better job than many want to admit. Last year’s chemistry issues can’t be all Brad. The Loyola game was an anomaly and I honestly think Ayo’s concussion played a big part of our performance.

Let the man coach and recruit, until he demonstrates he’s losing ability to fill a solid roster. This one, most likely, isn’t complete.

Perhaps.

I'm glad to hear it because I want our AD to hold people accountable.

I think BU is our best chance to succeed. I'm not convinced that a change would benefit it us, even if we have another 11-9, 8 seed, no top 25, first game exit. But to be our best chance he's going to have to up his game in a number of areas. One of the factors to make that happen is when his boss expects it.
Would you BretYourBeachHouse on that?

Has any industry ever experienced such a sudden disruptive combination of events like NIL and the transfer portal in college basketball ?
Anyone?

Stock and commodity trading floors, retailing going online, …the internet changed a few industries a bit.

I'm not a huge Brad fan, and in terms of coaching ability (not talking recruiting or NIL generation, just coaching) I wouldn't have him in the top half of the Big 10. But we are going to be a borderline top 25 team entering next season, so any talk of replacing Brad is a bit premature

GONE
Travel agents due to internet

NBA draft- free agency 50% team turnover every year
Sit down fast food restaurant - 70% is drive thru, new fast food restaurants around OC don't bother with indoor seating or bathrooms
Retail Electronics - Best Buy is last store standing and they are pushing kitchen appliances and cell phones
Hotels(?) - airbnb wreaking havoc on this industry
Rental cars - Turo is 50% lower price for long term rentals and growing fast

I don’t think the question was “has technology ever changed any industry.” It was “have two or more seemingly unrelated events happened at the same time, drastically changing the way an industry operates.”

I’m not sure why “two or more seemingly unrelated events” is relevant. Industries drastically change all the time (Clayton Christensen made himself famous in analyzing why that happens). It’s the leaders’ job to adapt.

I think it’s also important to remember that sports is generally a relative game, including college basketball. Everyone has gotten disruptive, some are evidently adapting better than others. It’s become part of the job.

Name 7 better coaches.

The biggest issue is that when we have any success at all, that immediately becomes our new floor for future success. We just spent nearly a decade playing irrelevant basketball.

Are we in a better place? Yes. Is Brad's system sustainable? That's yet to be seen due to the changes and challenges of the transfer portal. I wasn't a huge fan of our recruiting choices last year and I could smell the RayJ debacle coming a mile away, even though I only heard good news on it like the insiders had.

I still don't like filling out the team with rentals at the expense of young talent, but that's the game now I guess. Young kids can leave on a whim, so it's no longer rebuilds but reloads every year.

The invention of the cell phone camera and the electronic SLR camera, to the film industry??
As a photographer that still shoots a lot of what my fully digital friends call "heritage media" I can fully appreciate that example.

One does get the impression that Captain 14 may get the point that turmoil is more the rule than stability in most of today's world. The older you get the more examples come to mind. I do think it may be the biggest shift in college sports and perhaps ever. For basketball though it may really be when they stopped using actual baskets and came up with the string deal. I mean getting the ladder out to get the ball out of the basket really slowed the game.

There are many coaches that have been fired in the past 3 decades for not bringing in a national title in multiple sports, but they had their program in the top 20 most years and when they let them go they were terrible for a decade or two!
There are very few national champions each year.
