There's two sides to it for sure, and it depends a lot on what era we're comparing (e.g 12 team era vs 4) and your personal sweet spot. For the 12 team playoff, we only have a direct sample of one, but I think it's pretty clear that 2 loss teams are in the discussion, and even some 3 loss teams in certain scenarios. Expansion will only make those more and more common, and the stakes for regular season games less. There was something special about top ten games before that I think is being lost.

I have mixed feelings personally. 4 was way too tight IMO and too biased towards what used to be the P4. Expanding from 12 though isn't going to get me to watch more playoff games, and it will make me less interested in the regular season.
I listened to some CFB Podcast Bros talk about this. One of them made an interesting point. An expanded playoff keeps more people in the running for longer. It'll create opportunities for two 8-3 or 9-2 teams to play late season match ups with real CFP implications.

The part that may get lame is the automatic qualifiers. I understand that some years going 10-2 or better in the B1G or SEC may be harder than the ACC or Big XII, but there will likely be years where the #22 team in the country is the fourth-best B1G/SEC school with an 8-4 record. Is that team better than a 9-3 ACC/Big XII school that finishes ranked #20?

The simple fact that some states have passed laws that give their state schools more leeway in Pay4Play (let's be honest about it!) than schools in states with laws that DISALLOW P4P, is all you need to know that someone, somewhere, needs to get a grip on things! I don't know whether that is the NCAA, the individual conferences (B1G and SEC need to lead the way), or this College Sports Commission. I believe a single governing body needs to be picked and adhered to. Can the NCAA grow a spine and push/integrate/lead/consolidate these changes??? I think it should be them because of their ownership/control over March Madness and now the CFP. Time will tell.

Logically yes. There needs to be sanity with NIL and the out of control buying/selling/transferring is annoying. But, once there are rules, the bluebloods will find ways to cheat knowing that the worst that will happen is a sternly worded letter of concern from the NCAA.

Well well… look who’s top of the list when it comes to being this year’s spoiler. Not a contender, mind you… a spoiler.

Hope we don't get 4 conference champions and 12 other SEC teams like basketball

nice

the game misses him
the HOF shouldn’t
Yeah I really wish we could have had a Bielema - Leach bowl in 2022. Leach popularized the Air Raid at the highest levels of CFB and was responsible for so many incredible viral moments/memes. CFB is not the same without him.

Besides, it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Winning Percentage.

I know it's outside of college football, but I always loved listening to Mike Leach on the old Dan Lebatard shows. An endlessly fascinating individual who always made me laugh or think during those interviews - usually both.
