they simply took it for granted all these years that they would always get the best talent & overall rosters as they weren’t afraid to pay .

They coasted on the absolutely massive ESPN deal before NIL. The playing field is actually more even since then(for the the AQ schools/ND at least).If the SEC spent as much time trying to improve as they did pissing and moaning, maybe they wouldn't be the second best conference
People don't realize how much that benefitted Indiana(not that Cig isn't a fantastic coach too...). It is still fantastic to be an SEC school, the Big Ten just made some fantastic decisions(quickly too...) that made up a ton a ground on the SEC and likely even took the top spot from them at this point.
Even schools at the bottom of the conference fight like absolute dogs. Purdue against USC, NU too.
