Up until now I thought this was all saber rattling.

Now.........????

Interesting development. I thought it was bluster as well, but maybe LSU has angered the wrong people. No idea about the civil issues, but if the court says you can't punish them for taking guys who tried to go the NFL route and want back, wouldn't this be in violation of that? The SEC could try to spin it as some other rules issue, but to an outsider looking in, it appears crystal clear the reason was the player issue.

If LSU was kicked out of the SEC, I think the Big 10 would want them badly. Big 10 does not have a southern imprint. LSU academics aren’t Big 10 qualities, but where money is involved I think exceptions would be made. If Big 10 took LSU and Florida State, I think they’d call it good at 20.

I don't think the Big Ten would want an SEC cast-off, they would be seen as toxic to the brand. I would venture to say that you would see LSU to ACC, maybe to the Big 12 if it got bad enough.

From Randy Newman’s “Good Old Boys” album, “Rednecks” song, about LSU: “Go in dumb, come out dumb, too”.

maybe LSU and Michigan can just create their own conference. LSU pays cut NFL practice squad players. Michigan gets extra plays and calls. Play each other 9 times. Winner gets in the CFP. Loser cries until they get an at-large.
Add Notre Dame (easy schedule almost every year) and maybe Texas Tech?

24 is inevitable.

my guess is
B1G & SEC will get 6 guaranteed.
7th would also be possible at large
ACC & B12 would get 3 guaranteed
6 spots total at large
as in hoops , gotta earn points for ranking by playing strong teams & winning road gsmes

Sources: CFP opens ESPN negotiation window, 24 teams possible

Leaders of the College Football Playoff on Tuesday agreed to open a 30-day negotiating window with ESPN, signaling their greatest interest yet in a 24-team CFP field that could begin as soon as 2027, sources told ESPN.
