Sounds impressive but he has no authority beyond Ohio. Out-of-state games/schools and the NCAA aren’t subject to his declarations.
It had as much teeth asSounds impressive but he has no authority beyond Ohio. Out-of-state games/schools and the NCAA aren’t subject to his declarations.
He’s termed out. He's up for reelection in 3 weeks so this is a publicity stunt
Did it? Is there a source for this? That’s exactly why Shahid Khan was refused an honorary PhD, which in turn led him to withhold big gifts. The Faculty Senate disapproved of one of his companies, Flex N Gate in Urbana, resisting a union organizing effort. The Illini have already been burned by a political purity test, but not all of our competitors play these foolish games.
he’s actually term limited out & is not runningHe's up for reelection in 3 weeks so this is a publicity stunt
Tigers don’t change their stripesThis is high school football not college but I found it Illini related and utterly pathetic.
Miles Smith is the head coach at a high school in Mesa, AZ. He kicked his QB off the team for calling an audible. The former OC encouraged the QB to make audibles when appropriate, but apparently Smith fired the OC. Poor little Miles said he felt disrespected by his QB calling and audible and kicked him off the team right then and there. Their next game they get blown out 49-7. After the game he had a team meeting and asked who wanted the QB back? When a dozen or more players said they wanted the QB back, Smith said fine you're off the team too then.
Class act as usual.
From @spotter source: “Kate Clancy, a member of the anthropology department, complained about news reports that Khan recently held a “yacht party” attended by politicians she deemed suspect. ‘There are some ethical concerns,’ Clancy said.”Did it? Is there a source for this?
That wasn't my question though. I bolded the part about him "withholding big gifts." What is the source of that information? From @spotter source: “Kate Clancy, a member of the anthropology department, complained about news reports that Khan recently held a “yacht party” attended by politicians she deemed suspect. ‘There are some ethical concerns,’ Clancy said.”
So it wasn’t just old labor issues at Flex N Gate, but he was deemed guilty of associating with non-favored politicians. The article states the senate ignored criteria that are to apply to awarding honorary degrees while applying irrelevant ones. It was purely political retribution.

It was inevitable for this expansion to happen, but holy smokes...19 At-large bids! This is going to greatly reduce the quality of the non-CFP bowl games that take place around New Years (i.e. ReliaQuest, Citrus Bowl, etc.). There has to be a number of bowl games dropped out at some point, as the current "marquis" non-CFP bowl games are likely to now feature unranked opponents. Or we will begin to see the end of bowl games in general, as this does not seem to be sustainable.
No.It was inevitable for this expansion to happen
So you are saying it was inevitable? No.
People made affirmative choices all along the way to bring about this outcome.
The only consideration there has ever been on any level is the short term addition of CFP "inventory" to sell to TV. That's it. The deciders, the people who imposed this upon the sport care about NOTHING other than that single line item dollar figure.
Different values would have produced different choices.
Dude, this is just not true. Bret and Josh have both advocated for the 24-team playoff to increase likeliness of making the playoff. Seems like that’s another huge aspect of the expansion.No.

The CFP should have used this chance to add other networks like the NFL. It seems they will have to if conference championship games go away.
I like it. D2 and D3 have 32 and 40 team playoffs.prime choice snark:
and I love it. that said, there will be some upsets. the other thing is that late October/November is gonna be a lot more interesting for a lot of teams
Per Copilot:8 byes, and 16 on campus playoff games is going to be interesting. Then two rounds at traditional NY Bowl sites on ESPN. Other channels will probably allow many smaller bowls to survive and be viable for second tier programs.
Not sure where Illini will fit.
I can’t wait for the selection process to get to the point of debating whether a 7-5 SEC team is more deserving than a 10-1 Group of 5 team to make the playoffs…It was inevitable for this expansion to happen, but holy smokes...19 At-large bids!
