Penn State is 10-2 buy haven't beaten anyone worth mentioning. An argument can be made for them, especially with their fan support. There are 3 teams or so that probably deserve a shot in the Orange Bowl over Penn State.
Please tell me a team who would pass Penn State. They are currently #8. Only way they are shut out of a NY6 bowl is if USC remains ahead of them. I think USC falls somewhere between 8 and 10, behind Penn St. If this happens, Penn State goes to Cotton Bowl at worst (they will be the highest ranked at large team left...Alabama will likely be 5 and go to Sugar Bowl and Tennessee will be 6 and go to Orange). Penn State will likely be #7 and then go to Cotton Bowl if Purdue wins.

If Purdue wins tomorrow night, I think it locks 4 B1G teams in NY6. That would nearly ensure that we are selected for either Citrus or ReliaQuest Bowl. As it stands now, we are likely headed to Tampa.

The team most hurt by a Purdue win...USC. I think they are most likely in line for the Cotton Bowl if Michigan wins tomorrow night.

We were talking about if Purdue won tomorrow. Would Penn State beat out anyone for the Orange Bowl. And Penn State is ranked 8th, but again, who have they beaten?

You explicitly stated earlier in the thread that a Purdue win would screw PSU. I am simply saying otherwise. A Purdue win will keep Penn State from going to Rose Bowl, but I do not think it shuts them out of NY6. Also, it does not matter who they have beaten. They are going to be the highest ranked at large team not in CFP after Alabama and Tennessee, which means they are a lock for Cotton Bowl at worst. Either Alabama or Tennessee are a lock for Orange Bowl, and I believe Penn State is a lock for Rose Bowl (if Michigan wins tomorrow) or Cotton Bowl (if Purdue wins tomorrow).

If Purdue wins tomorrow the only team screwed is PSU. If Purdue wins, Michigan and Ohio State are still in the CFP. Purdue then goes to the Rose Bowl and PSU is going to the Citrus.
Nearly 0% chance Penn State is not in NY6 bowl game. As I have said, the floor is the Cotton Bowl.

The team that’s taking up a spot in the NY6 is Tulane. IMO, they shouldn’t even be there. If Purdue wins tomorrow, the Cotton taking Tulane over Penn State is a joke. I can see Clemson and Tennessee over Penn State for the Orange but Tulane over PSU for the Cotton. Yikes! USC vs Penn State would be a more attractive game than USC vs Tulane. It’s all about maximizing dollars.

Completely agree, but those are the rules; which makes me glad that this system will be changing again with the inception of the expanded playoff in two years.

The Cotton Bowl will either be USC vs Tulane or UCF or Penn State vs Tulane or UCF. Really depends on who wins AAC Championship Game and B1G Championship Game. I would be curious to see what the television ratings have been for the Cotton Bowl with non-power 5 conferences represented. USC vs Penn State would be a much higher tv and ticket draw. However, Tulane would not be chosen over Penn State; rather, it would be Penn State being chosen over USC. If Penn State comes in at #7, they are a lock for Cotton Bowl at worst.

For me personally, I would love to see USC go from playing for a spot in CFP to all the way out of NY6 altogether.

No they aren’t. If that were to happen, the NY6 isn’t going to leave out a 10-2 PSU team vs a 9-4 Purdue team. Especially when PSU beat Purdue in the season. PSU probably goes to the Cotton or the Orange, Purdue to the Rose, Ohio State and Michigan in the CFP and we go to the Citrus or the ReliaQuest.
So you think Michigan would remain in the CFP with a loss to Purdue........? Would indeed make things interesting.

You are 100% correct.

The CFP Committee has already spoken (as evidenced by the #8 ranking) and they really like Penn State.

Michigan and Georgia are locks for CFP, regardless of what happens today. Unless TCU gets blown out by Kansas State, they are also a lock.

I believe the CFP is set now, no matter what happens today. Georgia, Michigan, TCU, and Ohio State. The only thing that matters is seeding.

If this holds it is going to be Georgia, Michigan, Alabama and Ohio St so they don’t have conference match-up’s until the final. What a wild finish.

If KSU beats TCU, TCU will be in trouble. Even though I would hate AL or TN get in. I don't think any of these games will effect Illinois' bid. Now that Utah did their job, I decided to root for total chaos: Kansas State, LSU, Purdue, and North Carolina for good measure.

I am not so sure about AL or TN. TCU has 5 ranked wins (opponent ranked at time of game) vs 2 for AL. In addition, both AL and TN have 2 losses, and TN is without their Heisman candidate qb.

TCU should sweat it out, but they should not be penalized for losing conference championship game.

I firmly believe TCU is safe as long as they win or lose a close game.

Horrible defense by KSU. How do you let the QB get about 70 yards rushing on that last drive? 3 man rush on 4th and 2? just horrible.

Oh yeah an Ohio State-Michigan rematch in a neutral NFL stadium in January, very exciting, great for the sport.

Sonny Dykes blew the call in OT! 2 long developing plays from inside the 1??? He should have a swift kick in the arse! QB sneak both plays with 2 RB's pushing from behind would have got the job done especially since KSU LB's were plying 3 yards back!
I noticed that - a QB sneak would have been damn near a sure thing at that point I felt.
