As a stopgap measure next year, could they play each other home and home? That's 6 games. They probably already have 3 non-conference games scheduled. That's 9 games. Then scrounge around for 3 more games. Just till the dust settles.

that sucks for the fans
I just cant see that as any kind of a viable option other than a crappy last minute "solution"

At this point do they really have anything but crappy last minute solutions?
...ACC is not certain & adds a bunch of travel/travel $ and think I saw 30% payout of ACC money to start (so if ACC is at 40 mil => ~12 mil which is a bunch less than 20 mil PAC 12 Apple deal - locks them in until 2036?
...Dilute the conference further with some combination of Mountain West/??? schools...
...Join the mountain west or other lesser conference & further degrade brand
...Go independent, probably go home/home schedule with old PAC4 (so schedule looks like above)...and give up on sympathy shot at keeping Pac12 playoff berth & any brand PAC12 has left

this all sucks for PAC4 and PAC4 Fans & I agree long term it doesn't look very stable...but maybe it buys you some time to rebuild the conference & if/as long as you hold onto the playoff berth that money & a 1/4 chance are something that nobody else can offer...Maybe ACC figures out how to open up, maybe Big 10 reconsiders, maybe a new TV partner would like a couple late night games ...this whole process is a bit chaotic, stalling, particularly if ACC doesn't work out is a gamble...but financially I don't see much downside in the short term

Looks like it is the Pac-2 now. ESPN is reporting that Cal, Stanford, and SMU have been invited to join the ACC.

Where will Oregon State and Wash State land? I am betting either Mountain West or AAC.

What will be the next domino to fall? Will Notre Dame come to the B1G? Will Clemson, FSU, UNC, Miami, and others stay put or bolt for the SEC or B1G? It looks like the realignment chaos is still not over.

I truly feel for WSU and OSU.

Le Chatelier’s principle. The system is still far from achieving its new equilibrium, and these inherently unstable stopgap consolidations are the most obvious proof of that.

Disney pulled ESPN, ABC and other cable channels off Spectrum, which serves giant markets like New York and Los Angeles, over their unresolved distribution agreement... Without a resolution, Charter customers will not have access to other live sporting events including college football, which just kicked off its season.

Watching football without a streaming service could get dicey... really quick...

I don't understand why the B1G didn't go all in on Stanford and Cal. 2 Great academic institutions with high level athletics. Plus keeping rivalries with the other PAC teams moving over. Makes no sense to me, but then again, all this shifting doesn't really make sense to me either.

Those schools are still there and if/when the Big 10 decides to expand again, they’ll be under consideration and will jump at the chance if given.

The Big 10 has been pretty methodical at sowing a little chaos, sitting back and watching everyone scramble around, and then sowing a little chaos again the minute things start to calm down. Not adding Stanford/Cal now tells me they think they’ll have an opportunity at something bigger and better in the relatively near future.

I don't think it's so much about adding eyeballs (streaming undercut cable's power there), but you do want an area with a strong draw to keep those tv dollars rolling in. I don't know how many eyeballs Cal and Stanford actually get in the Bay Area. Add to that looking at strong football recruiting areas, you have to wonder if the southeast isn't looking a lot more attractive than NoCal.

I tend to agree. I understand that they don't bring much (any?) new money in, but at some point the price is so low it is worth it. The Big10 would effectively lock up the Pacific Coast for the future and remain the only real national conference. Once Stanford and Cal in are in the ACC, I am not so sure it will be so easy to pull them away. Unless the Big10 and SEC are able so overwhelm the rest of the conferences with the extra money they'll have for the next 5-7 years, this puts the ACC in a much stronger position when their deal expires.

Because those two programs are WAY dilutive. Which is why the ACC is paying them peanuts. And I think there are a lot of schools in the B1G that want to avoid setting the precedent of unequal shares.

Rumor has it Florida St, UNC, and Clemson wasn't happy about this...

WSU and Oregon St should be furious! Cal's football value is closer to Western Illinois than any other P5s and a crapton of G5s.

a conference with unequal members is a terrible idea and is doomed to fail fairly quickly .
this was orchestrated by ND , who is trying to buy more time , at no real cost to them except more airfare

I have to wonder if the ACC is throwing Stanford a bone to keep ND happy so they have one of their traditional rivals in the conference.

It was Notre Dame's suggestion (and to a smaller extent Cal)

As a Twitter/X mutual said, SMU basically simped their way into the ACC.
