Sorry if it’s already been discussed but curious what people think about possible new names for the B1G conference, since it’s likely to change. I’ve read a lot of blogs and sports opinions saying they should just take the 10 out and become the BIG conference. I thought it would be a fun plan on words to change it officially to “The Big League” conference with BIG as logo. Would be good to invite recruits to play in “The Big League”. Anyway, anyone with any insight or opinions?
Expand to 36 teams. Rename the conference The Big Tenth. Solved.

Why is the name likely to change? We've gone to 11 ***, then 12, then 14 without changing the name. Why does 18 mandate a new name?

The Big Ten brand is gold, I don't think it goes away.

Selling the echo of an old brand name with a diluted, degraded product is the whole game here.

The current leadership is to college athletics what all these vulture hedge funds are to the grand old newspapers in this country.

not a lawyer, but this seems like a hail, Mary
Courts will offer a degree of latitude in the interpretation and enforcement of contracts when unexpected circumstances arise that the parties entering the contract didn't know and couldn't have bargained for.

This is EXACTLY the situation these parties expected and bargained for and is EXACTLY why they entered into this agreement in the first place. EVERYONE foresaw this precise scenario at the moment pen went to paper.

What a lawsuit does offer is a forum to publicly get mad and complain. It's an expensive forum, but it's a public service that's there for the rich and angry.

of course ND's new AD Pete Bevaqua is going to say that

whenever I see that name, I think of Tommy LaSorda

A reporter asked Lasorda about Bevacqua’s accusation that the pitch was intentional. His answer, courtesy of the San Diego Union-Tribune, was more vintage Lasorda.

“I’ll tell you what I think about it. I think that is very, very bad for that man to make an accusation like that. That is terrible,” he started. “I have never, ever, since I managed, ever told a pitcher to throw at anybody, nor will I ever. And if I ever did, I certainly wouldn’t make him throw at a (expletive) .130 hitter like Lefebvre or (expletive) Bevacqua, who couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a (expletive) boat.

“And I guaran-(expletive)-tee you this. When I pitched and I was going to pitch against a (expletive) team that had guys on it like Bevacqua, I sent a (expletive) limousine to get the (expletive) to make sure he was in the (expletive) lineup because I kicked that (expletive’s) (expletive) any day of the week. He’s an (expletive) (expletive) big mouth, I’ll tell you that.”

ND has played these conference realignment and CFP changes super well. Might argue that ND being independent is about the only thing that is still left from old school college football. Father Jenkins and Swarbrick had a cool seat at every prominent table in the process and directed things to benefit ND accordingly. Impressive leadership and guidance, in a swirling sea of change.

Nice setup, having X posts from yesterday.

April Fool's aside, I'd be open to FSU joining the B1G one day but Clemson is more of an SEC school to me. B1G should be looking at Notre Dame, FSU, UNC, UVA, and Stanford (feels weird) from the ACC before Clemson, IMO. I wouldn't be against giving Kansas, Colorado, and Utah from B12 a look too.

If B1G goes to 24x - crazy I know - I would look toward Stanford and Colorado/Utah out west, ND in midwest, and FSU, UNC, and UVA in the east.

I can handle this plan. It allows some upward movement by those avoiding relegation and keeps those of us in the big conferences in play for the top positions. It may not be great for the lower tier but it works for us. And for me.
