It’s really early, but a fun team record watch might be Nico Hoerner’s stolen bases.

The team record is 84 set way back in 1896. With 5 in 10 games Hoerner is on pace for 81.

Cubs 40+ SB seasons since the end of the dead ball era:
58 Juan Pierre 2006
54 Ryne Sandberg 1985
54 Eric Young 2000
47 Davey Lopes 1985
45 Bob Denier 1984
44 Ivan De Jesus 1980
43 Kiki Kuyler 1929
43 George Grantham 1923
41 Ivan De Jesus 1978

Eric Young was a lot of fun that season.

Semi-related aside, I went to the White Sox @ Twins game last night. This was my first game with the new rules implemented and WOW the pace of play is noticeably different. The game went to extra innings and the official length of game was 2 hours and 23 minutes.
It's really great. It's not like everyone is paying attention to the pitch clock in a distracting way, it just keeps proceedings moving.

More action in the field, more action on the basepaths, it feels like the baseball of my childhood again, and that feeling is the golden ticket of this sport.

The other gigantic success story of this recent spate of CBA and rules changes is that teams are playing their best prospects again.

Progress!

My favorite part is that the games are so fast, you don't waste as much money at the concession stand.

(Teams are adjusting to this, however): Twins among MLB teams extending alcohol sales with shorter games

Cubs have signed their first free agent of 2024. All Star, Gold Glove outfielder Ian Happ signed for 3 years and $61 million.

That takes him through his year 31 season. Seems like a nice reasonable deal for all parties.
Nice job Jed (y)

The Cubs are much more willing to meet player asks on AAV than on deal length, which is sensible all things considered.

If you just totally refuse to bury bad money on the end of deals you're going to lose out on the top end of the marketplace, that has to be figured out, but for Ian Happ there's a deal-making space.

he seems like a nice guy
but he also seems like a guy who would be working at a tire store if not for baseball
best wishes to him , I like him and hes a good guy

I just hope $60,000,000 is enough for Mr Happ to scrape by.
