He sorta got it too early, had to wait a second for Swanson to get there, was effected by the mound, it just kinda wound up being awkward when off the bat it was like "game over". I got nervous!
Yeah, it wasn't smooth, that's for sure. It kind of looked like he nearly double clutched. Good thing he didn't one hop it over there...

Good thing it was Fatty Vogelback "running". He had much more time than he thought.

Milwaukee holds on against Colorado in extras.

Looking at the NL Central is fascinating. Cubs are the only team with a positive run differential. Brewers are exactly even with everyone else in the red.

I'm sorry but Ross lost that game. You can't sacrifice bunt Madrigal in the 9th when you have Morel up next. He strikes out way too much to depend on him to make contact with a man on third and less than 2 out.
Meh, no guarantees that Madrigal doesn't hit a two hopper to short. I agree with you, in principle, but you have to trust in your guy to put the ball in play. Saying Ross lost the game is assuming Madrigal gets a hit.

Don't like to give up an out there. I agree with you in all cases EXCEPT when Morel, Wisdom, and Barnhart are up next.
Which brings up the next question....Why is Morel leading off ?

His .339 OBP isn’t horrible. If they’re sitting Tauchman against lefties, he’s not the worst candidate to lead off.

Of course, they shouldn’t be sitting Tauchman against lefties. He basically has no meaningful split difference over his career. Morel has reverse splits over an admittedly small sample size, but has hit lefties worse than Tauchman over his brief career.

Against lefties, Suzuki should be in right and Tauchman should be DHing and leading off over Morel.

Madrigal is likelier to get a hit than Morel is.

Where the math really falls apart though is the way in which surrendering that out in a 1st and 2nd, 0 out situation takes bigger, game-winning innings off the table. The likelihood of one run goes up, but your net run expectancy goes down. One run to tie the game in the top of the 9th is valuable, but it's not THAT valuable. Your win expectancy heading tied to the bottom of the 9th is below 50%.

Now that pitchers don't bat anymore, surrendering outs is virtually always the wrong call in any situation where one run doesn't walk off the game in your favor. If it's bottom of the 9th at home in a tie game, bunting there is the right call (assuming you trust the bunter of course, that was a pretty high degree of difficulty bunt), but it was a very different situation last night.

The Mets had one guy that could beat us and we kept challenging him. Needed to pitch around Alonso, or whatever his name is. He’s a beast.

Love settling in for a Friday night to watch the Cubs on MLB TV only to discover it's Apple TV exclusive tonight.
