DC Bobby Hauck out at Illinois

He could pay for players too so I’m not sure what you’re trying to say
I’m trying to say why is he spending money on vanity projects instead of things that will actually help the team win football games.

Such an uniformed opinion on funds
I'm sorry, I had to

He’s given half a billion dollars to the university for both athletics and academics. If you think he hasn’t given money for players in both football and basketball idk what to tell you. We needed money to improve the stadium so he wrote 100 million dollar check to help.

It is an interesting question. Say they spent $70M on the stadium. They could have invested the money at 6% return and received $4.2M annually without touching the money. Would you rather:

1) have the upgrades we made and be done or

2) have an extra $4-5M EVERY YEAR to spend on players AND keep the $70M

The entitlement here is astounding. Guy gives $100M on top of hundreds of millions more over the years and people complain about it.

This attitude sure as hell does not encourage more giving, I can tell you that.
Unfortunately it’s the keyboard warriors life we live in. Peck away at the keyboard and say whatever.

It is more crazy to think that someone is trying to think less of Whitman because of this ordeal. It was clear as day that the defense had major problems, and if Hauck lost the passion to coach, I am glad he stepped forward and removed himself now. Sometimes a mutual parting at this stage of the season is for the best.

It is fair to have issue with hire in the first place, or to be stuck in the position that we were in to fill that role late in the game; but to be mad and lose respect for Whitman because of this ordeal...complete lunacy.
I disagree. I saying firing a coach in midseason makes us look like a football factory instead of a world class institution.

However, I am being told the decision was mutual. So I stand corrected

People are bothered by the talent level on the defense and who can blame them? Either it's not being funded properly or it's being mismanaged. Nobody is saying that we should have the money that OSU, Michigan, Penn State, etc does, but someone said that NW has a better funded football program than we do. That's not ok.

I think we can all understand people being upset that we have the second worst defense in the country (amongst the power conferences). The talent we throw out there is MAC level. People are frustrated, but it's misguided.

Just because someone said it doesn’t make it true.

This adds to the point. If we're spending more and are having lesser results.....that's a problem. We're on our 3rd DC in four games. If what you're saying is true, then this falls at Bret's feet. It's his coaching staff and it's his recruits and portal targets. That defense is an embarrassment. Part of it is coaching, but the majority of it is the talent and athleticism.

Brian Flores couldn't be successful with the guys we run out there. Why is that? Is it the funding or is it the recruiting and coaching evaluations? The latter is a Bret problem and the prior is a donor issue.

We don't seem to have this issue in basketball.

Just to be clear here it wasn't some random that said this. The Athletic investigated and came out with estimated ranges for the cost of all P4 football rosters. According to their reporting, Northwestern's roster cost is possibly slightly higher than ours (given the lack of exact amounts probably more accurate to say their roster and ours are in the same ballpark).

It's possible their reporting is wrong. But the range given for us is pretty much spot on what you've said in the past (just under $25 million I think is what you've said - they put us somewhere between $19-24 million). Maybe your intel on Northwestern's roster is also really good, idk. But I haven't seen a lot of people taking issue with the Athletic's reporting on this.

That’s an endowment, something I assume Gies was not willing to fund, so we didn’t have that option.

I’m aware what the article stated. It’s all just rough guesses. Illinois people did not agree with the number that was given for us in the article.

It was too many chefs. We hired an executive chef who knew how to run a restaurant, manage staff, develop dishes, etc, but hadn't run a kitchen during dinner rush in forever, who was obviously gumming up the process, and probably had his own ideas on the restaurant running part. The good news is we have a couple sous chefs on staff who do know how to run a kitchen during rush. But are they any good at the exec part? managing staff and developing dishes? and taking over after their boss walked out in a huff?
Makes me think of…
