Wes Grandstaff, Austin's Dad, was granted guardian status to ET between 7th and 8th grade. In fact ET moved in w/Grandstaff's that summer. An awful lot of people pulling at ET. Does anybody remember the name of that mentor dude that ET brought with him on OV or was that Evans??

Wasn't it like 4fingerPimp or something like that. I remember some crazy name.

Darius Coleman, an AAU coach, accompanied ET and his mom on his visit. He is a close family friend. But was not as vocal on the process/decision. Lamont Simmons was Evans' mentor who was very vocal during the whole process and decision, but did not accompany Jawun on his trip to UI.

Maybe it is just me but I don't think ET fits the Shaka mold but what do I know.

Was thinking the same thing. I know he inherited Cameron Ridley and didn't recruit him, but he seems to be doing pretty good with Shaka though. Not a player Shaka would normally recruit though IMO.

Didn't Grandstaff commit elsewhere before and back out before he committed to OSU?

Aren't you thinking of Mickey Mitchell, the other Texas kid. He originally committed to tOSU and then de-committed and eventually ended back @ tOSU but is injured.

I remember when his highlight tape came out before he got hurt. One of the most impressive Ive ever seen.

Mitchell was not okayed by the NCAA clearinghouse to play this year although it appears he is able to practice with the team. Kind of a Lovett situation. I remember reading on a tOSU message board this fall that he had a 3 high schools in 4 years thing too. He did have a serious knee injury in high school if I recall but according to this he's been great in practices.

ET was 3 HS' in 4 yrs and one of those was the defunct Prime Prep. ET holds the record though with 12 different elementary schools. :)

Jeff Goodman of ESPN has reported that ET is down to 5 schools--Nebraska, Gonzaga, San Diego, ASU, & Clemson. No UI.

So does ET have to pay for each visit now that he has already accepted a scholly somewhere? Or can each school pay for the visit like a HS kid?

This is the same kid that thought he was gonna go #1 in the NBA draft this upcoming year right? ......I hope someone else remembers this.

Just a kid who enjoyed the process a little too much the first time around

Meh, he's got the goods and will be in the NBA soon enough. Transferring was probably a bad move, but he's too talented not to make it. Not saying we should like the kid, just that he's not worth rooting against IMO.

Interesting that none of the schools in his previous final five made the list. Wonder if any of the schools even tried to re-recruit him.

That's fine if you're projecting out, but I don't think he's an NBA player...or even close.

I am, but I don't think it's much of a stretch to project him into the league. He's got great hands, and his body is coming along. Also, prior to his falling out with Kennedy, he was quite productive for a sixth man. If we were in the hunt for his services, people would be drooling, and IMO should be. Think he would have done really well under Groce too. Ah well.
