Good call. If they win the cup would they knock the 4th place team out of the Champions league (if United aren't in the top 4)?

I know this would happen if a team outside the top 4 won the Championship league, but wasn't sure if it was same for Europa.

You can have a maximum of 5 teams in the Champions League. So if Man United win the Europa League and they are not one of the top 4 teams, then the EPL gets 5 teams in the Champions League.

If the Champions League winner qualifies for the group stage through their league, which I'm pretty sure they will with the 4 remaining teams left (RM, AM, Juve and Monaco), then Man U would qualify for the group stage. If say Monaco wins the UCL and doesn't qualify for the group stage in their league, then Monaco would get the group stage for being the UCL champ and Man U would have to start in the Playoff stage in the UCL I think.

Regarding the Europa league talk we had earlier, for next year, it appears that due to the finalists of the FA Cup (Arsenal-Chelsea) and the EFL Cup winner (Manchester United) all currently being in the top 7, all of the top 7 would qualify for European competition. The round that Arsenal and Everton would enter Europa league would depend on who the FA Cup winner was (based on the current standings). If Arsenal wins, they qualify for the group stage while Everton goes in to the third qualifying round. If Chelsea wins, Everton goes into the group stage while Arsenal goes into the third qualifying round.

Arsenal has a bunch of games in hand, though, so it's pretty unlikely that Everton finishes ahead of them.

I don't think he was planning to return. Rumor had him moving to the MLS to be the face of some team (LA FC?). I didn't see it mentioned in the article, but it was reported that he tore the ACL and PCL. Being 35 years old, this could easily end his career. It was an ugly looking injury.

i also saw a rumor that he would only stay if manchester united won the europa league (and thus automatic entry into champions league)

Tottenham beat Palace 1-0 and now, at 74 points, have their most points ever in a Premier League season with 5 matches remaining. And, the gap to Chelsea is back to 4 points.

Gunners get 3 today. Climbing back.

Huge late goals for Tottenham and Arsenal. A draw tomorrow between United and City would be ideal for the Gunners.

Spurs really need Everton to beat Chelsea (or at least draw) but even then Spurs schedule is so hard it will be tough. Chelsea's schedule after Everton is basically a cake walk.

But it's the Premier League so anything can happen. That's why it's the most popular league in the world. Might not have any elite teams right now, but the competition top to bottom is unbeatable.

I'm a big United fan, but with their injuries and being at the Etihad, I don't think they have much of a shot. City should take the 3 points. But hey, it's the Derby, anything can happen, right???

I guess you were right. The battle for UCL is going to be so close. I think Liverpool and City will end up as the last 2 spots. I think Arsenal will climb back and have a chance on the final day but I think the extra fixtures will cause them to run out of gas against a tough Everton team.

DVR'd the game, but haven't watched it. Sounds like United sat back and absorbed a lot of pressure. Einstein Fellaini doing his part as well... what a dumas...

I'll take the point at the Etihad, though. It's looking like United will have to win the Europa League to get to the UCL next year.

i think the only way i'd ever stop (temporarily) supporting arsenal is if they hired jose. props to you if you can do it.

I struggled with the Jose hire at first... LOL. I'm not sure how you continue to put up with Wenger... He may be the one guy that irritates me more than Jose.

wenger is no saint but he's just always been there.

quite frankly, i'm ready for the rough road of the post-wenger era. i hope it's not as bad as the post-saf era for united.

We have our first team that has been relegated this season as Sunderland, who lost 0:1 to Bournemouth today, have officially earned one of the 3 relegation spots. They have been in the Premier League the last 10 seasons but have flirted with the relegation zone and just narrowly escaped 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Chelsea wins 3:0 at Everton. Though for Everton that's an improvement over the 5:0 result they had at Stamford Bridge back in November.

The Toffees travel to Swansea for their next match on Saturday.

Spurs get the 2-0 win over Arsenal, and it wasn't as close as the score suggests. St. Totteringham's Day has been officially canceled.
