I would be shocked if Louisville doesn't get absolutely hammered for this Bowen thing. It may take a year or more from the NCAA, but all things considered, it's hard to see how they won't get a major penalty.

They are already on probation as well.

Well, if it helps, it only has Evans on the picture for bribes to steer to agents and not giving kids money.

It certainly does, but we just don't know if Evans has anything on Underwood or OSU he can offer to help his case. I'm sure the FBI would love to nail a head coach for something.

Also I would be shocked if Player-4 on page 31 of the document isn't Jawun Evans. No one else at OK State was drafted that year.

The UNC scandal broke 6 years ago...

Wow these guys are done. This is wrapped up in a pretty box and bow tie ready for delivery.

Don't they sort of have to? If you ignore an FBI investigation and indictments of coaches with these sort of allegations, why exist?

NCAA is there to maximize profits, (and thus keep athletes in revenue sports from getting pay), and as a PR branch of the schools so they can get away with all the things that maximize profits. The NCAA has been burned, or at least challenged, several times lately by possibly exceeding their authority. Individual schools are known to push back hard when the stakes are high, and conferences have more power than ever.

The biggest issue here for the NCAA is the damage to the overall brand. I suspect for that reason, they'll do what they can to pile on, as others have suggested.

Committees will be formed.
Self-important people will say this was a wake-up call.
and someone will say "We're doing all we can" and really mean, "We're doing all we can [to keep business as usual]"
They'll probably even be a low level staffer that actually believes they're doing the right thing.

Fortunately the Illinois AD is an experienced attorney. There will be no railroad here for a change.

I hadn't thought of that! This whole thing is crazy! Bowen and others have to be declared immediately ineligible, right????

Whoa! One of the Asst. US Attorneys in the fraud division is named Capone?

#137
Wow, no way this is the end. There has to be more investigations of others going on.

What say Josh W. on these developments?

'If you are someone who is engaged in this type of activity, please call us. It's better if you call us, then if we call you.'

I got a great laugh from that remark. :D

I would not go that far, he just worked as an attorney for just 2 years right after law school, then embarked in a career as an AD. You need a lot more experience to fend off federal prosecutors, but I am sure UI will engage the appropriate legal channels if it comes to that. It's way too early to say what direction this case will take and what implications (if any) it would have for BU or UI.

Pursuant to NCAA Bylaw 11.1.2.1, a head coach is presumed to have knowledge of what is occurring in his program and therefore, can be responsible for the actions of his staff and individuals associated with the program.

NCAA Bylaw 11.1.2.1; Subsection A:

Unless your name is Rick Pitino

On a related note, Bruce Weber just found out that there is probably some shady recruiting that has been taking place in college basketball...

There is nothing - nothing - better than a well-timed Bruce Weber gif.
