There is a reason they are not announcing it...they are going to throw it in with the other hire (Hopefully a name that carries more positives than Miles negatives)
Lol really I don't know but nothing would surprise me. Wouldn't be surprised if Miles was hire, wouldn't be surprised if Nate came back. Anything is possible haha

So looking at Thad's twitter, it shows WR Coach and passing game coordinator. Is that a bump up in responsibility enough to soothe the sting of losing a coach to a non power 5 school?

Hmm that's interesting. I thought we had a large pool of $ for assistants. What are we spending that money on then? Not saying we should/shoudln't have retained him mind you.

So much for the stability touted in Whitman's letter.

Every assistant coach got a raise in December...Thad went up almost $100,000. If temple is paying him $425,000+ we aren't going to match that for a RB coach. (note I dont know what Temple is paying him but it is more than his 315k here)

I maybe in the minority here, but I am not down about loosing Thad. Everybody keeps saying how he was our best recruiter...for a team who's roster has sucked for quite some time. I think it is just more of the fact that we now have 3 open spots. Lovie's last three hires have been a great OC and our two strongest recruiters. I'm good

This is a big bump. This is almost a co-OC. I'm sure Thad has ambitions beyond Illinois. This is a step in that direction. It is also an acknowledgement of the success he has had. This was a smart move and this is a good time for us to lose an RB coach.

This is probably not a good sign.

It is definitely good optics if Lovie doesn't hire the assistant before the DC. The DC will want to ultimately make the call on the assistant and it will not look good to DC applicants that Lovie hired the assistant first.

Honestly, good luck and best wishes to Thad. He did a great job promoting the Illini brand and coaching the RBs. A man's gotta do what's best for his family.

Now, let's bring in someone better.

well said
lots of those guys toiled for years making chicken scratch. when the ship comes in , you owe it to your family to hop on before it sails without you

but Lovie should be able to attract someone better - both at the DC spot and for the other two openings. I expect something by next week Friday or sooner

At this point, I’m expecting an announcement today or next Friday or the Friday after that. No matter what it’ll be Friday since that day’s news cycle gets the least amount of play.

He should time it for the publicity of a Super Bowl Sunday announcement. Geez, unless his candidates are coaching in the game, there is no good reason for taking this long. USC hired an OC and then his replacement within a week. As for a DC candidate having to embrace Lovie's defense, a new DC should bring his own. Ours didn't work out well at all, except to thump PJ and his rowboat.

Hearing that Tate is saying on SMSL that Miles Smith has been promoted to full time assistant. Can anyone confirm?
