Football Reseating

You’re right, prices have not materially increased recently. They need to raise prices in areas that will now be easy to identify based on the data they’re collecting during this reseating. I still can’t believe they sell season tickets for $98/year. Butts in seats is what they’re after but at some point they need to extract more from their “budget” fans. You’d never get tickets like that at SEC schools and most of the B1G. Illinois, unfortunately, doesn’t have the most passionate football fan base in terms of scale.
You offer a good reminder that current prices are truly an entertainment bargain. Past Illini football options aren’t really a valid point of comparison. For comparison we look at other football programs and other entertainment in 2025.

Who knows what the future holds, with media and NIL money reshaping things? Like many, I’m mentally committed to just one year at a time and will check out if college football evolves in ways that no longer call to me (both the price and the product). So far, things look very good though.

I go April 9 for 2 tickets. Buyers still need to pay the IFund donation per ticket, so its not as if you can donate for 2 tickets and then turn around and buy 20 or 40 without donating more. However, those that knew they were going to buy 20 would be at higher level and be at the front of the line.
There's a lot of misinformation flying around twitter right now, people literally think scalpers made one minimal IFund donation and bought up unlimited premium seats.

It's a clown show and this time it's not Illinois. Massive amounts of good seats still available.

So a few top donors bought the max 20 tickets. So what. You could argue it should be lower but, what, tops 800 tickets will get sold at auction via this process?

I'm not going to worry about ~1.5% of the ticket inventory.

My most desirable tickets are also gone. I'm not surprised. I'll still get great seats.

My guess is it’s either scenario one or three, or some combination of the two.

The first people that picked are in the Loyalty Circle which is donations between $10k and $30k. Do the math and figure out how much they can make off selling their extra seats. If you are that financially well off are you really looking for a side hustle that can make you an extra few thousand dollars? Scalping tickets is a risky business with a ton of variables.

Sounds like a colossal pain in the a$$ for relatively puny return.

Sounds like a task the well-off person gives their assistant, and then brags to friends about how his donation was essentially paid for by reselling (whether true or not).

No well-off person would brag about having to subsidize his purchase.

Of course not, the bragging is not about the subsidizing. The bragging is about getting away with effectively paying little to nothing after netting the resales (again whether true or not). It's not about HAVING to subsidize, it's about giving the impression of having put one over on others.

That’s not typical behavior of the truly well-off, who tend to live understated and generous lives. They’re largely invisible. Marginally prosperous, emotionally insecure, “well-off wannabes” might try it, but it’s certainly not worth the effort for anyone who’s financially astute.

You are describing those in the suites, not in the stands. But whatever. Wasn’t trying to paint 100% and was definitely talking about the wannabes.

Well, my stress level has settled. Now it's going through the states of grief, whatever those are. We lost the seats we had for the past four years, despite having moved up to Olympian. Someone must have been up a couple donation level ahead of us because our cherished seats in 227 were gone the first or second day. We got nearly equivalent seats in 228, which actually saves us some money. But still, as my wife said, p!ssed off people are less inclined to give more money voluntarily.

One thing that we will miss is the friendships we have made over the past years, people we only see a half dozen times per year, but still... It's something that's perhaps not considered in this whole seat reshuffling kerfuffle.

One thing I'd thought about as a compromise would have been to grandfather everyone who's had season tickets in particularly seats, and then start the system they have now. That would have rewarded the faithful. Yes, I know the system they set up does reward the long-time seat holders with points, but apparently not enough to make the difference. Shoulda given more, I suppose.

I have Northwestern basketball season tickets. A few years ago, they went through a re-seating process. Their re-seating was just like Illinois except they did move season ticket holders who had season tickets for at least 35 consecutive years to one of the higher seat selection levels. I think that is the best you can expect for any re-seating process.

As an aside, every year after the re-seating year a few good seats would become available.

This was from an email they sent out regarding the ticket selection process:

SIT WITH FRIENDS
If you wish to sit with a group of friends when selecting your 2025 seat locations, Illinois Athletics can assign the same selection times to your group so they will be able to log-in at the same time to choose seats together.

All members in a listed group will be a given selection time based on the lowest priority ranking account in the group.

The deadline to submit a "Sit with Friends" form is February 21.

I think he was referring to more "casual type" friends he met sitting in the same seats near each other for years as opposed to good friends who all bought seats together over the years

regardless, its the price we pay for having a good team after all these past 18 years of crap

If someone still wanted to do this, they could just not purchase during their time slot and wait until their friend can pick. Or alternatively, buy all the seats under their own account and figure out how to transfer them to their friends accounts next year.

Maybe I don’t understand your idea. It seems there would be no reseating at all if everybody is grandfathered into their old seats? That’s what occurs every year.

Priority points are basically worthless because donating pushes you up the list super fast

Yeah, I can almost guarantee you that fan #1 who has donated $1k per year for the past 10 years, will NOT jump ahead of fan #2 who donated $5-10k for the 1st time this year..... this is where we are at.

We have been on West side but will not be able to be near where we were. So thinking of moving to East just under the balcony, ie, rows 45+. What is the first row at which the posts start to block one's view of the field?

I believe the pillars are set around row 51 or 52. So above that is where obstructed views start to come into play. The overhang of the balcony extends to approximately row 43.

My husband and I just chose our two seats while our two friends chose their two seats right next to us. Our IFund rep called both couples a half hour before our time to see if we had any questions, and then he texted us after our time to make sure we got our seats together. He was great, and it was pretty easy.
