Former Illini in College Hoops

Our starting guards have each other, Epps has nothing, in a stronger conference.

No need to continue to litigate it, it's clear that BU and Epps had differing visions of what Epps ought to be as a basketball player and I wish him all the best.

As you continue to litigate it...

Stronger conference? Okay. Georgetown's strength of schedule is worse than Illinois.

Epps defense, shooting percentages & ast/to ratio were pretty dang poor when he was here last year as well.

Conferences are similar.

UCONN and Purdue are a push

Illinois and Marquette are pretty close to a push

Wisconsin is close to Creighton

DePaul and Michigan are pretty much a push :)

Yeah I remember sneezing with a rib injury. That was bad enough forget about playing BB with one.
I can’t imagine him playing any more this year . those are slow to heal and it hurts ALL THE TIME .
at least that was my situation

I saw Jayden Epps at the Maryland game on Saturday. He was there with another Georgetown player, Massoud.

Thought it was nice of him to come support the team.

He stuck around after the game and chatted with the team. Lots of guys seemed happy to see him—TJ, Goode, DD, Harris.

So maybe the bad blood, bad attitude wasn’t as big of an issue with him as some other guys last year? Maybe his decision was more financial, close to home, playing time related. And Georgetown is a great school—if anyone still cares about that sort of thing…
Maybe a small part of him wondered what if he didn't transfer...he could be playing for a winning team...But, that was his decision and he has to live with it. He's no more likely an NBA player now than he was last year

To the players, it's all business, not an Ultimate Anime Betrayal.

5 of the top 8 Illini players started somewhere else.

Malcolm Hill back in the league with pelicans
New Orleans, LA - ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that the New Orleans Pelicans are signing Malcolm Hill to a two-way contract. Hill has spent time with the team's G League affiliate, Birmingham Squadrons, for most of the season. The 6-foot-6 former University of Illinois standout averaged 22 points per game for the Squadrons, including scoring a franchise-record 44 points in January. Hill shot over 40% from the three-point line.

I know it’s not on topic, I miss the Illini in the NBA blog

Malcolm deserved to be an everyday guy.

2 techs, 0 points, 4 fouls, and 5 turnovers in 12 minutes. Wow. And after he played an incredible game the last time out.
Andre is completely out of control. They say brain injuries can change your personality and filter. He was always a high emotion person but since the concussion he can't control himself. It is a very sad story. I thought he was going to be an all time Illini great after his freshman season. He played with such joy. Key to winning B10 tourney. I pray for his recovery.

My recollection is that insiders hinted to problems way before the injuries and aside/in addition to the injuries, but that is just an old man trying to remember what seems like a decade ago. I could be totally wrong. Edit: To be clear, I've been watching since the late 70's and Andre was one of the players I was most ever excited about after his first year. Wish him nothing but the best

Thanks for the update. It sounded like a fun nip-and-tuck game to attend.

Epps had an excellent game, pouring in 33 as GT’s primary offensive weapon. He did it in front of 4,279 folks against a 3-24 DePaul team.

Stolen from elsewhere: After going 4-0 in the 2021 Big East Tournament, Georgetown has now won 4 conference games in the \~3 years since. Their 4-51 record includes 3 wins against DePaul.
