I’m just genuinely confused. Did our staff and players expect a different punch from Indiana? I don’t want to hear anything about some other excuse … the ENERGY isn’t there, period. From anybody, head coach on down. There’s zero explanation you can give for why it should be 35-10 at half … injuries, officiating, Indiana being elite, etc. None of it explains this performance.

We look like we’re surprised we’d need to do more than go through the motions.
Honestly I pray it’s the energy. Because candidly, we don’t look like we belong skill wise. And that would be a lot more questions

What I am really sick of is how all summer we heard from Bret and all of our staff that our o line was our biggest strength and yet has played out to be our biggest weakness from the first game. I kept thinking that one these games they are going to show us what they were talking about but it's not gonna happen. I don't know how we could have been so wrong on our assessment of where we were at.

I just had a few pulls of malort and a puff of the devil's lettuce. I feel better but can't put the game back on

You mean, this team would win 5 more games this year and get to 8-4?
If you look at the schedule....

8-4 could be a stretch if we don't get things figured out quickly.

USC against this defense?
Ohio State?
Washington @Washington

Not to mention if Purdue has some magic...

This is the exact wrong type of offense to go up against when you’re down to 3rd-stringers in the secondary. We can’t get pressure when every throw is out quick, and our backups can’t cover all their receivers.

Ergo…we’re screwed

Road games are tough, we knew Luke would be sacked much like he was in the Duke game and we can manage that. Our defense is allowing way too much separation and honestly we’re being outcoached in the sense that Indianas game plan is to TAKE the game and I can’t say for sure but looks like we’re trying to just “manage” it if that’s the right word. Not aggressive enough basically. I was never sold on Feagin honestly other than he’s a big body, not enough gaps for Valentine to take off, we gotta air it out an maybe some slip screens/play action to open things up. ~ Whiskey
Honestly, the issue is we can't cover them and our positioning and angles have been highly questionable. That said we're down 3 of our best DBs. It makes sense we're having issues there, they've got NFL guys they have to cover. The biggest issue is the Dline and LBs. Gotta get to Mendoza fast and cover the dump offs and we're not getting the pressure or the angles from the LBs we need.

Even with a stellar 2nd half adjustment (where to start lol), I don’t see us keeping them from scoring at least 21 this half

So now what? I don't think we can bring much pressure with what is left in the secondary. They need help.
Offensively, I think we might just need to get Luke out of the pocket. The line holds up until it can't and Feagin won't pass pro.

I said before the game that time of possession would be huge and we couldn’t get into a shoot out.

the oline just never gets a push and is slow off the ball. None of our backs are good in pass pro.

Again…point differential vs common opponents last year:

IU: 46-11
IL: 35-25

IU is at home.
IU has the better QB,
Bielema is 0-7 in his career at IL vs top 45 offenses

I tried telling you all these things in the pregame thread.

And how can you create “energy” when you give up 5 sacks?

It doesn’t help that we are without Clarke, x and miles. Give IU credit they came ready to play and punched us in the mouth. This looks like a team coached by Zook.
Yep, they are getting short throws for at least 7 yards at will because of our missing DBs, and they are breaking tackles for big gains on about every 3rd throw. There's no defense that can stop that

The hate on OC/DC is ridiculous. We were going to fire them in the middle of what ended up being a 10 win season? Okay.

The one coach who should absolutely not be back next year is Bart Miller. No more excuses for the OL being so average to below average. This has been every year for the last four. And we have all returning starters this year. Unbelievable.
