Shannon guarding buie was effectiveI don’t think our defense was that bad. It’s easy to say “play defense” when a team shoots 50%+ on you, but look at what BU’s defense is designed to do: force tough 2 pointers and allow guys like Buie to shoot contested floaters over our drop coverage. The switching 1-5 gave us some bad matchups on Buie, and there were a few instances where we need to get over those screens better, but we did exactly what our defense game-planned to do: NU is 1/4 from three.

I bet BU is spending the break reinforcing the lads with maybe some tough love , but also telling them they are playing with too much pace......slow down settle in and play Illini BB and we will win this game.......

I was thinking more about the 7-0 run NW had to end the half. Getting that rebound off the missed FT which started their run.
TJ is out of sync and understandably so. He missed a bunch of time. He also needs to tune out the noise and just play.
He's not passing he's driving into triple teams...early hero ball...
To anyone at the game, is the crowd noise pretty neutral? Doesn't seem very loud either way.
I watched the first half from my family room, which is also where I watched the Maryland game. I have now moved to the basement where I have watched every other recent win. I did my part, so now it's up to the guys on the floor.
I thought the same. Hoping he focuses on playing shut down D and letting the offense come to him a little bit more. He seems way too eager to put his head down and barrel to the rim. I know that's kinda his thing, but feels too forced right now.
Gonna be our ball to start. Let's get a quality shot and play smart.
The game has not changed in the basic formula for success since the peach basket was first put up on a pole. YA GOTTA PUT THE BALL IN THE BASKET MORE OFTEN THAN YOUR OPPONENT!!! NW, in spite of what many Illini fans would like to believe, is a quality team that can beat anyone. Our guys must understand that every detail is important, every play, every board, every pass, and EVERY SHOT.
Illini are 12 for 34 from the field and have taken some pretty tough shots. NW is 16 for 30 while only attempting 4 from the arc to Illini 11. They are taking their time and getting easier shots...and making them.
We gotta make shots and defend better....quite simple. Patience and focus will decide who wins. I hope to see more ball movement and hard cuts along with great defense. This does not have to be close....but it will be....win of lose.

I’m not impressed with the noise from NW, not a lot for the Illini side to cheer but I get the sense a good run will blow it open.

nu bigs got away with about 20 illegal screens and over the back's but no calls......has d j bald head ref infection been passed to all B$G refs ?...................well , at least we had no ref reviews that half.....but I imagine we will have some in the 2nd half.....I really really do....

That was the worst half of basketball I've seen TJ play and we are down 2 . We'll be alright.
It was a good idea and could have gone our way....but the fact is he held him to a dozen....not exactly what we would like to see.
