It is, because Edey can just collapse back and clog up the lane as a help defender for everyone else.

It isn't just against Purdue. Its 2024 having a big man not able to step out and hit open shots is almost unheard of.

A starting guard not being able to even look at the rim outside the paint?

I LOVE Ty and his game but acting like this experiment doesn't have a ceiling none of us want is crazy.

As I said in the pregame, if they were going to "guard" Ty with Edey, we needed Ty to drive the ball into Edey and dish to a cutting Guerrier. The problem is Ty is hot potatoing the ball so it's looked more 4 on 5.

I kind of half expect Edey to build a fire, sit cross-legged there, sing 99 barrels of beer, and roast a few smores while waiting for an incoming pass or rebound opportunity.

He had the fire lit and was opening the bag of marshmallows when the shot went up

What is disappointing is that Purdue is easily whipping us without Edey having a big game. Even when Edey was on the bench, Purdue was pulling away.

He has an impact with spacing. We saw how effortlessly he slammed that down. We double, and their guys have a great chance to hit an open three

I couldn't even tell you what our strategy is. I rarely get on the game thread but I am so frustrated. And it's not because we're losing. It's because we aren't even giving ourselves a chance. I'm just at a loss.

I have the same fool’s hope … but we need to start shooting well enough to keep it close enough to keep up the intensity/urgency on defense (or vice verse!).

Well, that was ugly. The stress of dealing with questions about TSJ may have caught up with the boys.

No, not having TJS has caught up with the team. NW not FDU could match up with us physically or athletically. Purdue can.

My #1 concern was not having a "go to guy" to thwart major runs and #2 was not getting the elite defensive effort needed on the perimeter to neutralize Edey.

Well, we see what's occurred.

Without TJ, things like Ty not bothering to even pretend to shoot the ball is showing up. It's 4 on 5 on offense when he can't physically dominate the guy guarding him.

Not likely, but not impossible. Like the Illini against NW, this is their ceiling. Home court is huge. For so many to hit such a high % for them is an anomaly. Not saying they are not good, as they are as good as any team, but on a neutral court, they can come down to Fairleigh Dickinson level...a proven fact.

That is the unknown in college hoops...the little, invisible gnome that sits on the heel of the rim somewhere every night and swats shots away, then switches at halftime. Happens every day/night somewhere.

Everyone saying Edey hasn't had an impact just doesn't know ball. Him being out there SIGNIFICANTLY impacts everything we try to do. When he went off the floor we were killing them (until they decided to not miss shots).
