Just from the little I've seen of JGjr, I think we need to go with him for a few games and see where we go. MAYBE start Crouch one more, but if that's is a no-go then def JFjr. We have to have more options on D.

You have to remember all the true freshmen we're playing. The playbook is probably VERY limited. If you had a team of Sr, Jr, with a few So's you could do what you suggest. We look pretty one dimensional because we are... because it's basically necessary. Play calling will improve as the kids are able to do more. We're easy to plan for. Hell, the announcers called our plays before we ran them most of the time. Doesn't mean it's a bad call. Run some plays you can't execute and see what that looks like.

I'd like to also say, the kids out there played their buttocks off for most of the game. This is going to make for some great teachable moments. They will now know what they want to look like in a couple years. And for all the delusional fans that thought we'd go 8-4 or 6-6 you can see all the hard work we still have to do. We kept it pretty tight until that terrible late first half score. Good effort for most of the game before they were just too much for us. I'll be interested to see us play some weaker B1G teams to see how we measure up there. Another win or two would be nice this year.

I agree with the second paragraph. But surely we know a few runs with the RB and a few with the QB. But we just pass pass pass with a running QB and a good RB

How long can you hold the ice cube? Going to be a long, cold, painful 3 months.

Until it melts? We are not going to win this year, just isn't going to happen. You dont' burn a year on Thomas unless both Crouch and JGjr are injured and out for the year.

Guys. It's a game thread. We were barely competitive in the 1st half and getting shredding in the 2nd. If you don't want to talk about the game, start a new thread. I really love the idea of these freshman developing over the next few years, but tonight, I really wanted to enjoy a competitive game (at least through 3 quarters), not this garbage.

I was hoping for a competitive first half and I ALMOST got it. USF is exactly what we want to be in two years. You can't drink a case of beer, wave a magic weener, and make it happen in 15 months with a handful of players and no depth. The odds will catch up with you always. Our team is going to be GOOD in two years. I think we'll be competitive next year. It's going to be a long, slow grind to get there. We should probably raise our academic standards to make it more difficult.

Tonight I really wanted to sleep with Kate Upton, but I'm somewhat realistic

What parts of this game have impressed you tonight?

For me, it's the Adams pick, blocked kicks, and Epstein. Outside of that, the youngsters are getting some experience, and Dudek is good but they can't get him the ball.

But the negatives have far outweighed the positives. Offensive play calling, QB play, protection, penalties, tackling, coverage have all been huge disappointments.

JGJr might have limitations but atleast he throws a accurate ball. Chayce is a option QB with not a strong accurate arm. Lovie has decision going further because the skinny is out on Illini press the quick routes and see can the QB beat them deep

I was pleasantly surprised by the scoreboard at the end of the first half. I haven't been able to listen or watch this one, but it seems like we had a real shot at going into the locker room only down a single score, but for a missed tackle during the final play of the half.

I know the box score is turning ugly, but this game is revealing a lot about this team that will be more valuable to us later this season than if we had scheduled a third cupcake.

AND, although I had pie-in-the-sky aspirations of winning this game, this is pretty much what I had thought/hoped would happen. We'd keep it respectable early, gain some experience late as we got whupped.

Honest question...going into this game, did you seriously expect them to win? I'm not talking about competing. I'm talking about actually winning this game.

JGJ standing in that pocket like a BEAST with a blitz in his face. NICE!

This. Chayce is a great leader, but he threw high, he threw behind, he threw low, he threw late. That was probably the single, biggest disappointment for me tonight. Granted, he was running for his life, and never really had a chance to develop any rhythm. Pretty tough job tonight but it did not go well'ish. At least JGjr has had some success and the O-line has gotten a workout! It's like they went to a clinic tonight. I think they get better from this.

Nope. But I was hoping they'd keep it within 2 scores, maybe 3 if it got out of hand in the 4th.

I was also expecting 300 yards of offense and less than 10 penalties.

What were you expecting?

We are playing Freshman against a possible BCS team. How can you make a decent evaluation? We have a terrible QB and a competitive defense. That's it

USF is good, but let's not get carried away. They aren't a playoff caliber team.

I was expecting Crouch to play like a Jr. That's my primary frustration. His horrendous play has immobilized the offense, which has compromised the D.

I was expecting a defensive effort with two turnovers (optimistically) and zero offense. I mean we had basically ONE good drive against WKU. Our offense has looked spotty and anemic all season with Epstein being the standout. 300 yards of offense??? I'll have whatever you're having. ;)
