I’m here in the west balcony (for the 34th straight year). That was a nice call and a beautiful play. I’m an optimist. There’s hope...

Lots of extra leg room and hot chocolate. Go Illini!

Two sacks deep on our own end. That's it, I've had it. Can't watch the Ohio State game either because that is a blowout. Can't watch Minnesota vs Nebraska because I can't stand that little boat rower. Just have to wait for the USC game.

Wow! Beautiful catch!

But it cost us. :(

That's our rallying cry this year, isn't it?
Last year was "it's Lovie's first year".
The year before "Cubit's an intern"
The year before that "too many JuCo players"
Before that "Becknan can't recruit"
Before that "Zook can't coach"
Before that "the offensive schemes don't make sense"
Before that...

You get the idea.

At some point, we just need to realize that we are what we are. An academic school that offers football.

As much as you want to look at it that way, it’s the freaking truth. You have true freshman guards going up against players that have had 5 years of college football. And funny thing is... everything you said was why we are bad... so I don’t get your point. Zook couldn’t coach. Beckmann couldn’t recruit. Cubit was not the answer. It was lovies first year with a barren waste land. And this is lovies first true year of recruiting. Mindsets like yours are the reason we are even in this position. Let them build. You need continuity with real coaching and we finally have that. Is it hard to watch? Yes. Is there legitimate reasons to it? As much as you want to deny it... yes. The D is improving and the offense is good in the spots they were able to recruit in the last class. This is a MULTI year re build and mindsets like yours and fans like you posting crap on fb for everyone to see does no one any good. “WELL ILLJNI MED WEVE BEEN BAD FOR YEARS AND THIS IS JIST A CONTINUATIONOF THAT WAHHHHB”. You couldn’t be further off.

I promise you "fans like me" are not why we're in this situation.

If you firmly believe a fan forum post drives the football success, you're crazy. I've been gladly giving my money to the football team since I've been married. Haven't missed a home game since 2005. There are many reasons why illinois hasn't been consistently successful in over a decade. This forum, the list I mentioned above, and me personally, are none of them. Those are excuses.

Total rebuild, sure. Most of us know that. However, the Marching Illini have to show up and give their all every game. I buy tickets and show up every year. Other teams with 1st year coaches win. But we have to console ourselves that we have to blow off an entire season? This is a business too.

Irrelevant. If you don’t have the talent you will not win in this conference. We do not have the debth, experience, or talent yet to compete. And that is not on this coaching staff. They have had one recruiting class.

You’re grabbing at one thing I said and completely ignoring everything I have said. It all starts with the AD. THe last two have been dreadful and made the wrong choices from top to bottom. We finally have An AD who gets it. He’s made the right hires. He’s making the right choices in regards to revamping our facilities. So again, what would you like to change in the athletic department right now that would sprinkle fairy dust on our current team that would make them national champions in one season? I really just don’t understand what ppl were expecting this season or for that matter, next.

I just grabbed the thing where you blamed me for the Illinois football program's years of mediocrity.

Hey, I agree with you about the right hires and the right AD, but I'm also aware of what we are.

I am not looking for a national championship, just looking for a reason to believe, hope. Lovie is building this team the only way he knows. Great defense, hope the offense comes along. As usual, he picked an offensive coach who is clearly smarter than everyone else, cause his play calling makes no sense. I agree, next year will b slightly better, but I have no hope of a bowl game, so maybe in the fourth yr we get to where Purdue, Indy, Rutgers and Minny are now, teams with hope.

Or a program trying to get out of a massive hole that we have been in due to Beckman. We may have struggled before but rebuilds in football take a lot longer than anyone wants to admit.
