Uconn 2011 run was similar. Five wins in five days for conference tournament championship ( with a buzzer beater against Pittsburgh) after losing 4 out of five to end the season. Followed by six straight in NCAA tournament to take the trophy home to Storrs,CT.

I took them to reach the Final Four. Just wish I’d bet more than $5 at 60-1! I did it before the tournament started, but after the ACC victory.

Can't take anything away from them but it's kinda played out great for them. Getting Duke instead of Houston was huge for them and Marquette was running on fumes and absolutely atrocious from 3.

All that being said I think the Illini would have had a good chance at the final four if they were any other region.

OT but didn't see a game thread so wasn't sure where to post this -- so they are experimenting with timeouts at 17, 14, 11, 8 and 4 in NIT....I already feel like the game flow is so choppy with the TV timeouts as soon as a team starts to make a run. Now they are going to add another? Do we really need a TV timeout three minutes into the game?

The timeouts you mention only occur in the 2nd half. The additional timeout takes the place of the floating second half media break by making it one of the five media breaks. The free throw lane is also widened from 12 feet to 16 feet, which is what is used in the NBA and FIBA.
