Love the crowd they brought as well. Basketball always more fun to me in this kind of atmosphere.
It did help that Terre Haute is only 85 miles from Hinkle Fieldhouse. But yes, it was a great atmosphere. I think the NIT Final Four should always be in a smaller arena like this and in a slightly smaller city. I think it would be a really big deal in a place like Des Moines (just using that city since I live there and we have a 16,000 seat arena. I feel like it would draw a good crowd no matter who was there playing here.)

And I totally jinxed them. Sorry Sycamores lol. The Hall goes on a 9-0 run to close the game. Horrible shot out of the final time out. What in the world.
Iirc, for the three possessions before the very last one, ISU shot 3s and missed every one. At any rate, they were a fun team to watch, some really good ball movement.

They got scre$$d out of an NCAA berth. I know there would be screaming, but some of these poor NET conferences and teams should only get one entry. Otherwise stop pretending that NET means anything.

So listening to some of the Alabama-UConn pregame talk, Nate Oats says they "aren't going to be stupid" and attack Clingan. Hmm.

And others that Illinois was intimidated vs. UConn, but Alabama won't be.

I don't think we lost because we were stupid or intimidated. I suppose when you give up a 30-0 run you pretty much have to sit back and take all the negative takes, but find both of those annoying.

I'd be ok with uconn crushing them by 50 at this point

Attacking a rim protector (who did commit at least three fouls against Illinois in the first half, but we know this NCAA tournament has basically given rim protectors free reign) is a lot of things, but "intimidated" is not one of them.

Sitting back in a five out and chucking threes like I expect Alabama to do screams "intimidated" a lot more than what Illinois did.

Stupid or intimidated? No.

Took a risk and got absolutely punked for it on national TV? Yeah. It is what it is.

Based on the Sleepers game recap, we were stupid attacking Clingan for TOO LONG. I am with them because we could also play 5 out and tried to draw him out. We did not do that nearly enough and we did not attack the rim enough (instead of standing and shooting threes) while Clingan was on the bench.

1.) Stupid? Wow, shots fired. lol.
I don’t think taking it right at Clingan should have been our sole attack…because it just wasn’t working.

But I think if Brad had gone the other route and said: “ Okay, men we’re gonna avoid that monster at all costs! He’s just too big and strong. I just want you to settle for 3s (forced or not) and mid range jumpers that I don’t ordinarily encourage…I don’t want you driving or cutting or trying to create or finish anywhere near him. He scares me, frankly.”

I don’t think you wanna trade one absolute for another. Some critics have proposed/implied he should have been doing something along those lines. (Looking at you Sleepers) Brad’s a psychologist and a cheerleader as much as he is a strategist.

If you thought the spectre of Clingan altering our shots was bad before…it really would have been bad had Brad broached it like that.

2.) Intimidated? I think Clingan definitely got in our head and forced us to alter our shot…We saw the same kind of thing with Edey to a lesser extent this season. But were we scared senseless? Absolutely not. In the end we got flustered more than anything.

But so what. It was a great season

Looking on the bright side here ... it actually feels kind of GOOD to be too bitter to care about the Final Four because we were so close and didn't make it, lol. The last several years, by the time of the Final Four weekend I had gotten over the final loss of Illinois' seasons and just tuned in as a casual fan. We made it far enough this year for it to still sting watching these other teams play one more weekend than us, and that speaks to a pretty high bar for the program.

Alabama gets to read our line, so to speak, after what we did against UConn. It is always easier to putt second.

I haven't heard many pundits bring up this point.

Not defending Brad's game plan at all, but the "In-between game" was never really part of our offensive attack this season or a strength on the roster (other than Marcus booty ball and on occasion from TJ)...

It really stings that Ty couldn't make Clingan/Edey pay, but not many have 🤣

Edit: Come to think of it, Ayo would've feasted in this matchup

I haven’t heard a ton either…but the ones I have heard pissed me off. Lol

I think we’re pretty much in agreement on this. We kinda knew going in we were gonna have to knock down some shots.
That was a game we needed about 3 M. Domasks and better transition D throughout..oh well. Lol

Edit: You’re right. Ayo probably would have. Plummer or Trent on a heater might have been nice too…while we’re wishing. Lol. :)

And if UCONN happens to lose Saturday or Monday, the excuse that Hurley will sell will be because the airline industry is against them. He probably already has poster board material up for the team.
He already has been talking about this, and the UConn sheep are following right along. Some guy on a comment thread in the Athletic was already spouting the party line about how the NCAA needed to have better backup travel plans available.

It's incredible how paranoid that group is. If Clingnan or Castle are sick tomorrow, I'm sure someone will say that the hotel tampered with breakfast at the hotel to give them food poisoning.

How many minutes will DJ Burns Jr get in tonight's game? Asking for a friend.

Zach Edey is unable to make any NIL money through deals in America because he is in the states on a student visa: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...rdue-zach-edey-missing-profits-due-us-nil-law

There are loopholes which allow him to accept NIL money if the work that led to the money was done elsewhere. He is able to do NIL deals when he is back in Canada or when Purdue travels internationally. He is able to make money off of jersey sales since that is considered passive income, but he wouldn't for example be able to film a commercial for a West Lafayette business. And it's not as if it's an NCAA rule that's preventing him from doing so. It's the law here in the states when it comes to NIL that is preventing from getting NIL money here.
