I mean they've won 6 national championships all since 1999. Credit is due.
Oh they’re getting all the credit they deserve/need, I’m not worried about that. They just seem to have taken on the smug attitude of the Alabama program but for basketball. I can’t stand coaches/fan groups that look down on everyone else.

Hurley needs Meds adjusted or put on them. Him on the sidelines in a disgusting circus. Total 💩 show!

Karaban will be back for UConn.
Castle only shot 28% from 3 this year. He might return. Clingan also possible.

Depending on how much those guys like college, want to go for a 3 Pete, and what they could be paid to stay another year I don’t think UConn will be that down.
I can see Karaban maybe but not the other 2.

The thing about UConn is they don't stop. On offense they move the ball until they get a good shot, and they very rarely take bad ones. They don't commit many turnovers. On defense they pressure the ball, don't give up easy baskets and don't give you many second chance points.

They also have their own version of Edey and pros on the perimeter. I'd feel good about us cutting down the nets this year if you give us Donovan Clingan. They run great stuff but it's less about the scheme and more about the dudes.

Without Edey Purdue would have been middle of the Big Ten and sweating out selection Sunday hoping they got a bid.
Yeah - want to see how dynamic Braden smith looks when his assists aren’t dumping it into a 75% shooter with the gravity of the moon on Edey. He looked good for a lot of the season but when they’ve needed him most he looks more like a nice college starter then a first team all big ten guy.

That said, Painter is a great coach and program. I wouldn’t expect them to not be good the same way I have no idea who will be playing for us by by October I expect it’ll look like a top 25 team.

Isn't Castle a top 5-10 pick? No way he comes back. Clingan is a likely lottery pick, also gone.

I wouldn’t take any guard in the top 10 of the draft who shot 28% from 3. I think Castle can improve a ton there. Castle I think is very similar to Jaden Ivey. Purdue got a couple years out of Ivey.

Clingan is what he is. I don’t think he’d really improve his stock that much if any by coming back, but he’s also a local Connecticut player. He’s got 2 rings in 2 years. He may want to get 3 even if coming back doesn’t help him much in the draft. There’s things he can improve like FT %

If you want a good chuckle - go read the way too early top 25 on ESPN - ranking Purdue at 6 and UCONN losing their top 6 in the top 5.
Not silly at all. If Edey comes back and Purdue gets some good guys in the portal, they could be better than this year. Same for UConn - some of their guys will stay (though no particular one as big as Edey) and they will add talent.

Now if Purdue loses Edey, I would expect them to drop a lot. Though Painter's a good coach and will always have them at a decent level.

It will be interesting to see where Painter and Purdue go from here.

In the 15 seasons before Edey came along, Painter was more likely to miss the tournament than he was to win the conference.

Will they revert back to that kind of volatility? Or have they turned some kind of corner putting them in that MSU, Arizona tier of consistent national relevance?

Article assumes no Edey for Purdue and no Clingan/Castle/Karaban with all being draft picks in the top 45

Jaden Ivey is a good comp, which is why Castle is going to be a top pick in this poop draft.

Purdue looked good in the 1st half but UCONN is just too good. Bama ended up giving UCONN the best game.

lot similarities with Illinois / Uconn. Competitive first half and 2nd half was pretty much all UCONN.

Given how Ivey has kind of flamed out in the NBA, I just can’t see any player under 6’5 that shoots <30% from 3 being a lotto pick. I think NBA teams are too analytical especially with their Lotto picks.

Ivey his freshman year shot 26% from 3. Returned his soph year shot 36% from 3. Then using those numbers got to lottery range.

Castle at 28%…Scoot Henderson couldn’t shoot either and look how badly his rookie year has gone. This is an all time weak draft but it’s really bad GM’ing to draft guards that can’t shoot.

I think if Castle goes to the draft he’d be closer to the Jalen Hood Schifino range

Jaden Ivey and Scoot Henderson would be the #1 and #2 picks in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Ivey has been pretty good and Henderson is 19.

I mean I wouldn't bet against Hurley at this point. Feel like he can easily reload in the portal plus two the freshmen that didn't play were top 50ish guys and has another one coming in.

Probably just safe to stick Hurley in the top 10 until they lose some games.

Clingan will go top 5ish and Castle will go in the top 10.

Karaban may be back but he's a borderline 1st round pick. He could be gone with the right feedback.

As long as Hurley is allowed to keep both feet on the floor whilst the game is played, and bending Ref's ear after each call is beyond annoying. I think he elevates whining to an olympic event.
