As long as I can be an engineering consult, I second.

It’s a helluva lot cheaper and easier to replace a scoreboard than change an entire section of the stadium.
although technology is moving so fast that a new scoreboard might be outdated in just a few years, i
would guess with a little planning, a scoreboard could be relocated onto any renovation.

I know we all want and the stadium needs a renovation of some sort on the horseshoe, and yes things could be better on the East side and with the Student section. If we had unlimited money we could do it. But if we were to have a multiple large projects then it's eventually going to come back on the fans to help pay for it. Our games are so affordable and there's something to be said about that. It may not be perfect but the value we have right now is crazy

Around the nation most renovations are all geared towards the big spenders (another reason why more west renovations are more likely than anything to the east IMO) and the die hard fans are being priced out. The scoreboard seems like a resonable cost to hold fans over vs 300m+ to completely renovate the south. Then personally I could see a North end zone renovation to cater to those big donors potentially more likely since they will be the ones helping pay for a lot of it. If it means that tickets stay affordable, I wouldn't mind that at all

Has anybody seen pics of the new scoreboards? Is the NEZ getting a video board or just a bigger scoreboard? Any mock ups would help.
69' tall video LED board. Not sure what's kosher to share on mockups but it shows video edge to edge

Maybe a dedicated Illini fan will win the Powerball lottery. If it were me, my priorities would be family, St. Judes, Shriners, various other charities, complete stadium reno and last but not least a new set of golf clubs for me.

69’ tall…you must be talking about the SEZ board. No chance they are putting one that big over the student section.

I have yet to see anywhere official confirm what is or is not being put in the NEZ. A while back somebody shared the clipping below from a press release in June. It just says “new board” and was preceded by reference to “videoboard” and “ribbon boards.” So it leaves it up to us, the reader, to interpret what they are talking about.

I’m sure it’s going to be a videoboard of some sort. But it might just be the same size and format as what was there before, but it will now have the capability of showing scrolling ads, MAKE SOME NOISE messages, etc.

My hope is that it’s a small-ish video board that is big enough to at least show replays for those of us in the Horseshoe. I have my doubts though. If what is going there is anything substantial, they would have said that or shown a rendering of it by now. Plus with how the NEZ stands are constructed, I’m not sure they can put something up there with much weight without needing to add support pillars. And that’s already ~60 ft off the ground.

My guess is that it’s a ribbon board similar to what Purdue put over its north end zone stands a few years ago.
