Illini in OC

In. The. Alley.
It is defined as a reference to Animal House when Belushi had the rant/speech and stated "was it over when the Germans bomber Pearl Harbor". It was used in reference as to when someone posted something that was old news.

I was here when posters first started using this phrase. But for the life of me I cannot remember who first tied it in to the threads and how it happened the first time.

Been heavy lurker here since 2004 ish
Correct. Was eventually reduced to simply "German". Was already well-established on Brumby's board around 2001-2002..

I hated the way we treated Bruce at the end but that Photoshopped GIF on him in the Flashdance outfit at the playground is among the funniest things I've ever seen.

Foul on Arch

Saying whenever officials start calling a lot of ridiculous fouls on the Illini. Robert Archibald (RIP) racked up a ton of fouls in his career. Some earned, some quite bogus. Officials focused on him ridiculously.

Long time poster, under various names. Probably time to move on and pick another one now that Groce and Lovie have departed.

Here's a couple, to the best of my recollection.

Luther Powell Jr. - a fictitious player created when a confused tv announcer combined our actual players into this hybrid. Now a reference for any announcer gaffes with player names. Also, not the guy who will pay tuition (e.g. Crandall's) to help the team whenever we want a recruit, but also want to save a schollie. ;)

Duhon's rib- from a 2004 game vs. Duke when Chris Duhon playing with bruised ribs was extolled in the media as if on par or greater than game 7 Willis Reed heroics or Jordan's flu game. Now a reference for really laying it on thick, over emphasizing one's toughness, miraculous effort if playing hurt, etc. Not to be confused with general media prejudice for Puke or Ratface. 🐭

Been on the boards since Brumby's original (late 90's/early 00's)

Missouri - Miznoz
Ohio State - O$U

tOSU - a play on the obnoxious and self-important emphasis on the "THE" in the Ohio State University.

How about these two:

When the game slows down for (whoever the new player is) and
Let's the game come to him (whoever him is).

I have no idea what they mean, but I see them all the time.

"Illinois guys"

A term used to describe essentially anyone who suits up for the O&B. Most frequently used in the context of recruiting misses. A recruiting miss is by definition not an "Illinois guy" (we want players who want to play at Illinois). Once assigned, the title can be revoked in the case of a transfer. E.g., Mark Smith was not an "Illinois guy" after defecting to Mizzou.

See related: no true Scotsman.

Luther will pay for his scholarship. Used to suggest Luther Head will cover the cost of a player to walk on so we can have more than the scholarship limit of players (originally used regarding Crandall I believe).

Missouri = Mizery (more so than Miznoz? But Miznoz was a fine picture of their fans.)
