IHSA Football Playoffs 2024

The Saturday slate of games are all looking like blowouts. Also the public vs private will be very lively with private schools likely to win 7 of the 8 championships.
Loyola isn’t as strong as they’ve been in the past. Their weakness this year has been defending the pass. York has a very good running game, the key is how they the passing game goes. If they are able to throw just enough to keep the defense honest they are are hard to stop. The qb Massel is very explosive runner
Mt Carmel barely beat normal last week and Loyola hasn’t dominated this year. Both are great programs but they aren’t unbeatable.
Mt Carmel and Loyola will dominate Batavia and York like they have over the last few years
Loyola will dominate York. The East vs Loyola game was the state championship.
The game was 23-14 last year in the semi final.
Batavia doesn’t match up well with mt Carmel. They will try to pound the ball and not have success.
Chicago Christian not beating maroa lol. Last year Maroa beat them 42-6
I’m sure Althoff will win but who had camp point beating them last year. DePaul prep is a good story but they are definitely a beatable team
Next year Naz and JCA will move up to 6a. That should make for a pretty interesting Bracket.
DePaul and St Laurence will move up to 5a. I’m not sure where Montini and Althoff will be now that they will be multiplied for the next 2 years

Mt Carmel will be in 8a next year. Marist and Brother Rice will lose their multiplier so it’ll be interesting to see what they do
Maroa-Forsyth will definitely be favored, but Chicago Christian is a much better team this season, and now have won 3 straight playoff games where they were underdogs or the lower seed. I feel confident they'll at least make a game of it.
I hope York wins, I’d love to see them knock off Loyola. I’m in Frankfort with kids at East so I’m biased, but I’ll be pulling for the Dukes to win it all.
Loyola is definitely the favorite but York can give them a game. They have a huge line, 6’7 te, 4 good wr and 2 good running backs. Qb has legit 4.4 speed. They are a run dominant team but the passing game has improved

Crazy ending in 3A game between Monticello and Unity.
Monticello took a 3 point lead with just seconds on the clock. Unity was able to get the ball to about their 40 yard line when the receiver is tackled and Unity took a timeout. The clock operator let the clock run out so all of Monticello's fans rush the field. The refs have to clear the fans off the field and penalize Monticello 15 yards. So now the ball is across midfield with 1 second left. Unity throws a hail mary that is caught in the end zone for what seemed like the game winning touchdown. However, the refs threw a flag on Unity for an illegal man downfield. So the game ends and Monticello moves on.

I saw some highlights of that game, the QB has a cannon. You can challenge Montini through the air, but I’d expect this thing not to be close. They are stout on defense. Wilmington was huge, but they found out pretty quick they weren’t getting anything up the middle and bouncing outside was a non starter with the Irion brothers. Montini tackles very well. Offensive play calling can be vanilla although it wasn’t Saturday. If Montini gets #1 Florio in space, he is a fun watch. He is like a marble. The running back is a load and they have another one in JoJo that is a terrific athlete himself. They don’t get him the ball as much as I think they should. The QB, Izzy, is good. He is indecisive a bit, but he is young and learning. Once he figures out he is the best athlete on the field in most games he will be a load.
Montini will win easy their championship game was against Byron. Realistically Montini has no business in 3a. Next year when they move up to 4a/5a Iccp will drop down to 2a/3a which is also dumb. With this rule of schools losing their multiplier if they don’t win 3 playoff games in a 2 year span means Marist and BR will drop to 5a/6a unless they petition up.

Zero business this year in 3a. They are an old bunch and will lose a ton next year. I believe their numbers were down this year. They couldn’t field a true freshman team. They played up and played other schools JV squads.
How that rule and the success factor are applied makes no sense. Why should the success. Just give all the private schools their multiplier and keep them.
Althoff, Montini and DePaul are all schools that didn’t have the multiplier applied. DePaul prep might be in 7a next year the school is growing like crazy
A lot of smaller private schools have been doing that. They have jv (frosh/soph) and varsity. Between the cost or tuition and changing demographics in dupage private schools are struggling
