Monte will be able to go. Monte is being slept on big time. He's very athletic and very athletic and very long. I think he'll be better than Trent. His 7' wingspan is key.

Lots of things up in the air.

DW comeback from injury
AJ improvement and fit to system
MS ability to play BIG defense
TJL shooting improvement
Greg E learning curve
MF defense at 5
Etc.

Will be disappointed if we don't have a winning record in BIG, but not predicted for us.

Agree, and would add:
Is MA capable of scoring 15+ in the BIG to help replace MH scoring?
Can LB stay on the floor (out of foul trouble)?

I definitely think we win somewhere between 3 and 14 conference games:)

Fair enough.

But I'll add that the game was the ultimate Groce in tactics: With a handful of points lead, Groce decides to sit on it. I won't say that RU didn't work hard, but we allowed them to stay in the game all the way to the end...and then let them take it. You k ow what would have happened with Underwood at the helm.

Someone needs to go to the game with an appropriate sign. Here is a first draft.

Not sure about all that, but think we will all be happy to see one of the top 3 freshman guard groups in Nation. Not drinking Kool aid, there ranks in top 💯, that is what other people thought. We get to see what a well coached and conditioned team can do.;):illinois:

So we more or less know the full schedule:

Nov. 17 ... DePaul^ ... State Farm Center
Nov. 19 ... Marshall ... State Farm Center
Nov. 22 ... Augustana (Ill.) ... State Farm Center
Nov. 24 ... North Carolina Central ... State Farm Center
Nov. 28 ... Wake Forest* ... Winston Salem, N.C.
Dec. 6 ... Austin Peay ... State Farm Center
Dec. 9 ... UNLV ... Las Vegas
Dec. 13 ... Longwood ... State Farm Center
Dec. 16 ... New Mexcio State ... Chicago
Dec. 23 ... Missouri ... St. Louis
Dec. 30 ... Grand Canyon ... State Farm Center

BIG
Home & Away
Indiana
Sparty
Wiscy
Neb
Rutgers

Away
Minny
NW
OSU
Mich

Home
Purdue
PSU
MD
Iowa

Without knowing a lot about our non-conf opponents, that portion looks fairly soft (which makes sense for year 1 and a young roster).

Yeah it didn't sound like Brad was too thrilled with the schedule. I think for this young team with a new coaching staff, though it's good for us to have a softer schedule to start. Next year we're already in a TOUGH Maui field and I think we'll be more aggressive with who we schedule.

Two sides to the soft-schedule-coin. On the one, soft schedule gives a young team a chance to rack up wins early and build confidence. On the other, a tough schedule gives your young team a chance to play underdog and surprise some teams.

Personally, I'd rather the later. Especially since young roster like ours that's just learning a new system is likely to lose one or two games we shouldn't. With this schedule, it's tough to balance those loses out with quality wins in the non-conf.

Yes, we have a relatively soft non-con schedule. The degrees of freedom we have to schedule for the upcoming season is a lot less than some folks realize. Many of these games were scheduled years ago. A scheduled game implies a contract. Yes, those can be wriggled out of in most cases. But there's a cost involved. What looks like a good non-con schedule 3-5 years ago, may not be the case now.

Doesn't seem to fit his coaching style. Seems like he wants to challenge himself and his guys. Is there anyone in the non-conf besides Mizzou that should be good?

I know they have a great recruiting class coming in, but let's not forget that mizzou is coming off of a season with 8 wins and a completely bare cupboard. They probably will be good, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they struggle. Try not to listen to what their fanbase is saying. Mizzou people tend to think of themselves as a tier 1 school in every sport.

Wake Forest should be tough, besides that, not so much. All remember we have 2 B1G b4 Xmas, see who we draw there, 1+1, so students should be in school for that one.:chief:

#797
The potential B1G move to 20 games will take care of some of that schedule "softness".

#798
Personally, I like this website when it comes to rankings. It has us at 61 FYI. Only Mizzou is above us, though I think he's got WF severely underrated.

Was just comparing his top-25 to CBS early season top-25, which I would take as the more conventional wisdom.

Either way, other than possibly Mizzou, we play nobody until the conference.
CBS is projecting MSU, Minney, NW, and Purdue in the top-25. scUM shouldn't be far back.

Fans don't like paying good money to see cupcakes.!!:)

I always enjoy a few cupcakes. I enjoy seeing the bench play a lot, especially the younger players. I like relaxing and looking off the ball more, too. In tight games, it's hard to not just follow the ball.

Not many cupcakes, but a few are good.

With a new system and a whole lot of freshmen, some cupcakes will be good for us. Agree tho that would like to transition to having a much stronger preseason
