Alstork is going to play big part but I'm going to put my apples in the Mark Smith bucket......

Again, Ayo would be a nice land for future recruiting but I still don't see Trent and D-Will allowing for it....one of those two are going to want that vacant spot...if these team over achieves (NCAA Bid) you are going to have some really hungry returning players....IMO

Alstork will lead the team in scoring. Smith is really good, but he will have some “freshman” nights.

Ayo is a game changer. I don’t know whose spot he will take, but he will be on the floor for starter’s minutes. There are plenty of minutes for Ayo, Lucas, Smith, Frazier and Williams at the 1-3 spots. Heck, even for THT.

This thing we’re talking about here is competition by high level players for heavily desired minutes. That’s a good thing and we haven’t had it in a while.

I think Ayo starts day 1 with Smith and Tejon. Damonte and Trent will come off the bench their first 2 years unless one passes up Tejon which I don't see happening. Kipper and Ebo will likely be the other back ups. I would love to see Matic get into the game but I could see him redshirting this year and therefore having to wait his turn in this team.

That being said, I likely am wrong because we haven't even seen a minute of play under BU.
I can easily see this team going 9 deep. I know it often ends closer to 8 but if we land Ayo, I really do see us going 9 deep that year and running guys out of the gym.

Even being a year ahead of him, Ayo is in a completely different category from Trent & D-Will!

I think DaMonte, is more like a Serg only way more athletic, he is going to play alot of places on the court, and do alot of things besides scoring

Damonte is much more skilled than Sergio. Will have a better career and will definitely score more. Not the ball handler his father was but a more complete and explosive player. He’s been overlooked big time. Remember how excited everyone was when he committed. That feeling should’ve never changed.

Not sure he has been overlooked, just not spoken about due to lack of participation. We hear more about him , daily basis, now he's involved in practice. Think over time , he will make his mark in the lineup, He was highly touted for a reason, expect great things from him.;) :illinois:

Leron and Finke probably both start, but I don't see either of them playing more than 25 mpg. The rotations will be really interesting. Do you only play them together for 10- 15 mpg, or sit them both together some and put Ebo and 4 guards and really pressure the ball.

It will be really interesting to see how they handle from game to game and within games.

I'm imagining Leron and Finke being on the floor together (a lot of posters have said it's not gonna happen). But I think that it's going to depend a lot of the foul situation, and who can back up the 5. If Greg/Matic/Kipper can't defend the 5, or allow one of those to shift over for enough minutes, you'll probably see those 2 tag-team center for most of the game. I'd love to see their fouls/minutes managed so they're both available down the stretch, but I trust BU will come up with the best options.

Unless Finke has improved drastically on D, he will be subbed in & out in late game situations for offensive/defensive purposes. My guess is Kipper will see a lot of the 4 on the defensive side in those spots.

Finke and Black I would assume will play mostly together and a 2nd duo of Nichols and Greg in for more athletic up and down tempo relief.

Either way we are not bad off this year...the coming years so far for inside play might be different. In reality the best will play and hopefully attract others.

The Big Ten team no one is talking about: Iowa.

Hawkeyes return 10 of top 11 scorers from a year ago. The player to watch: 6-11 Luka Garza. Could possibly be Iowa's starting center though he's a freshman. Cook, Bohannon and Baer return, yet Garza is a key for Iowa's success. Hawkeyes won 10 Big Ten games last year. Could see them win 20-25 this upcoming season.

So, here is a theory, its possible we never really saw the real Leron. JG's offense and defense were SO slow and deliberate I think he was out of place and out of his tempo 90% of the time during games. Somewhat of a hyper active kid made to sit in the corner - he'll get in trouble just to cut the boredom.

I think you may have something here, and maybe so does he;

They lost their Malcolm Hill, though. 20 PPG scorer. It remains to be seen how they replace him.

Not "no one", but you are right, seem to be under the radar.

Luke Garza the Iowa freshman averaged 22.5 ppg and 10.3 rpg in Iowa's 4 game European tour this Summer.

If Garza's stats continue in that manner for the upcoming year, he would almost be a suitable substitute for Jok. Guess the Illini will have a good game with the Hawkeyes in January at SFC. ;)

Finke and Black are not good defensively. Both are 2 slow to defend the perimeter, but too small to protect the rim. And Finke isn't a good rebounder either. Maybe Spicy G can be a rim protector, but I'm not expecting much more than simply showing potential. But the goal is to hopefully score enough that those weaknesses are covered up.

Are saying that things never improve? I really think your saying that they aren't good , means that things can't be better. In the system they were in, standing around, not being aggressive, might have lead them to appear that way.

All the upperclassmen would probably say there is nothing they are doing now, that compares to the way it was before. This team should turn a!ot of heads , anyone who thinks this is not true, is not paying attention. ;):illinois:
