Wow, out of the top 100. Yikes

Kenpom is based mostly on returning stats from last year. We lost about 3/4 of our points. Need to let it play out a bit with so many new players.

Ken Pom is entirely based on last years defense and offensive efficiency and returning player production. A purely statistical model.

With few returning players and new offensive and defensive systems, his system has very little validity for our team specifically.

Meh... people act surprised that pretty much all of the pre-season rankings (human or computer based) have us pretty low. It is no surprise. Pre-season rankings will favor teams that:

a) Were pretty good last year and return a fair amount of major contributors
b) Have highly ranked recruits, McD AAs, 5* talent, top 30 players, etc., coming in, especially if they have more than one of those
c) Team with both a) and b)

We have none of those. Much of what we have is returning players who could or should improve, and young talent who could surprise and overachieve their rankings. We can still have a good season if those things materialize, but being low in pre-season rankings is not really a surprise.

Fodder to work harder... cause “we don’t get no respect”

Will be stopping in at practice this week, I will try to give a brief summary of some things going on at this point. Will be interested to see how things are progressing.

If we can dress these scrimmages up as "relief efforts" for the best cause at that current moment to allow people to see the games, cant we amend the rule and put them on tv or sell tickets and profits go to charity from the start? A lot of good can be done, and fans can get to see games. Everyone wins.

Can't really read much into this closed scrimmage stuff.....now if we should be on the tail end of the score with Southern, UT Martin, or Longwood...then I will have reason for concern

Exactly. We've also seen the other side in past years where we scrimmaged someone who we perceived as modestly to significantly better than us and we beat them/kept it super close (supposedly) and assumed that we'd be better than we were that year.

Scrims are all about ironing out kinks.

Looks like a young IS team. I don't put too much stock into these scrimmages. Coaches will preview film to find out the positives and negatives. It's only pre-season.

Its foolish to write us off as a team outside the top 100. We are going to come out and play tough ball. For the first time in a long time, I think we are going to be playing our best basketball when it counts this year.

That's strange. I heard directly opposite information elsewhere. So have some on Twitter, apparently.

Same here. But doesn't really matter. Score means almost nothing in these scrimmages.

There are lots of stoppages and plays/situations being set up so coaches can teach. A lot of work to do to get the offense gelling. But a new coach, new system, lots of new faces... This is to be expected. Gives them a chance to see what/who needs improvement.

This is the reason they don't tell people about the scrimmages. Coaches try all sorts of weird formations and defenses and lineups and try new things and they goal isn't to win, but people see a final score and assign a winner and a loser and judge the teams on that. It's unfair, and it's a scrimmage for a reason.
