I also think Mizzou will most likely beat us this year, but we were just discussing how a lot of times the results of a scrimmage don't mean very much since coaches will often hold things back or try new things. Obviously this was a little different since it was televised, but I think generally the same hold true to a certain extent.

Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if Self held things back more than Martin. A win would have meant way more to Mizzou than it did to Kansas.

You win by trying to get Porter into foul trouble as soon as possible. I have no idea if he has any tendency to get into foul trouble, but the best defense against him is to have him on the bench as much as possible.

And then you do everything in your power to limit his supporting cast. Him scoring 50 points isn't enough to win on its own.

Just looked up the stats from the Kansas/Mizzou scrimmage. Porter (both actually) had the second highest on Mizzou (third overall) with 4. Obviously, with this being a scrimmage and being allowed 7 fouls, one would be far less careful with fouling, but it at least shows that he isn't completely immune to getting into foul trouble.

Clearly I'm drinking too much orange koolaid cause I feel like we'll dispatch of Mizzou rather easily. It's probably some major ignorance on my part too, because I haven't studied their roster a whole bunch, but it seems like Tilmon and the Porters are 3 of their best pieces yet I don't see how they fit. And generally, you're trying to get your best 5 on the court at once as a coach.

I would absolutely take Mizzou this year. They could even be 2 digit favorites come game time.

Man is Porter for real, or what? Kipper is going to have his hands full.

The size/length of that team is elite. It was an exhibition, but despite it looking like early season bball, they held their own for 35 minutes against one of the NC favorites. I'm not sure we have anyone who can get Porter Jr. in foul trouble --I think it's far more likely it will go the other way.

Game should be an interesting test. I'm optimistic, but I think even if we're ahead of schedule, that game is still 50-50. Definitely wouldn't underestimate them, even if their coach is average at best.

Who are you thinking?
Smith, Alstork, and .... Leron? Damonte? Trent? spicy G?

I'm optimistic Smith develops and makes NBA, but I'm iffy on the others - they're probably not as good as BP3 or Malcolm, both of whom were excellent college players and neither of whom got drafted.

I'll be surprised and ecstatic if Underwood gets three of these guys to the NBA. Based on RSCIs and historical data, I think the odds are very low.

I think Kipper has a shot. If he can guard multiple positions he's a consistent jumper away from being a prototypical NBA wing.

I'll agree that Miznoz and Porter looked pretty darn good in that 3 minute highlight video. But, many teams can look pretty good when they are hitting wide open 3s. I didn't see a whole lot of defense being played by KU. The inside game with Tilmon does worry me.

I think it is going to be a great Braggin' Rights game!

Go Illini!

Kipper has no shot to make a NBA team

Let's not confuse possibility with probability, nor correlation with causation.

It is clearly within the realm of possibility that Kipper would have a shot to make an NBA team, though given a number of factors it may not seem like the most probable, or even a highly probable outcome at this time.

I will enjoy watching him and support him in his pursuit of that goal, if that is indeed his goal, in any event.

Had the privilege of seeing a practice recently. Coach Underwood has a certain swagger. Players really take to him. He is not afraid to tell it like it is. If things go the way I believe they will, then U of I will need to pony up this time. No more Coach Self and let him leave. I don't think Josh Whitman will let it happen.

One thing ill say is, man these guys get up and guard you now. A lot different than the packline. Packline is a good M2M defense but to see athletes that play in your face defense is impressive.

Kipper is a hilarious interview.

"What, do they ship him fish or something?"
"Yeah, fish. (pause) Kipper fish."

Yeah it is. When I saw them last week all I could think was that the players probably can't wait to run the offense against a normal defense. Some possessions they struggled to even enter the ball to the wing.

I came across this on McColley's youtube channel and found myself being sucked into what Izzo had to say here. Talks about players being so pressured to leave for the draft (and how Miles has avoided it), as well as the FBI investigations.
