The ability for BU to rotate 7 footers come B1G play is going to be huge. Pun intended. Our defense will be better. Whatever his past stats are, he's going to contribute, even if it is 15 minutes of banging and fouling.

This is a win. :illinois:

I like that almost 79% from free throw line and 4.8 attempts per game

He's a stop gap, but there's nothing wrong with that. We're going to be rebuilding next year and it's not being a downer to say we're going to struggle - we just are.

It will be fun to see Frazier and Ayo in the backcourt together and which other players emerge. If DeLaRosa makes it a little less painful next year then great. But we all know we're playing for '19-20 when we can be competitive again with a good '19 recruiting class

DeLaRosa went to the same HS (Christ the King Regional) as 2019 5 * offeree, Kofi Cockburn. Clearly this is a package deal.:) Come on down Kofi!!

If De La Rosa happens to bring Cockburn along with him, so be it. It's worth it.

Worst case is Adonis not healthy for this year and his scholarship has to be carried over another year if medical waiver is granted a la thorne. I like the pickup, was the only grad transfer that looked interesting. I like the idea of sitting first semester, getting healthy, then returning for 2nd semester. Clear targets. But will obviously play if ready.

BU to smart to let that happen. He is much more aggressive recruiter.

No way that his scholarship "has to be carried over"

In August of 2013, 247 had him rated at #83. He "faded" to # 379. I don't think we want to use rankings for our frontcourt.
Kane-#281
Higgs-#386
Giorgi-#367
DelaRosa-#379

Not certain, but you may be misreading the page I linked? Their rating system gave him a score of 83 (or .8262, which they round), but that's not the same as him being ranked as the 83rd best player in the class. Maybe you're seeing some other indication of a prior ranking that I'm missing, and it's just a coincidence that his rating and former ranking are both 83.

He wouldn't be granted a 6th year since his redshirt year wasn't due to an injury.

DelaRosa was 325lbs as a Freshman. He playing weight last year at Kent State was 265. Dropping 60 pounds should make him a bit more mobile and ease the ACL recovery.

Welcome to the Illini Basketball family, Adonis! Can’t wait to see you don the Orange and Blue! Go Illini!

Couple highlights in a row where he’s posting and his teammates don’t even look at him.

If he is a true big the looks for him are on the backside pick and roll, if he’s not open on the roll the immediate post up look after, and if that’s not open the high low look on the first reverse pass. He would also get a look on the dribble entry after setting a down screen before entering the 2 man game with the guard.

Probably also the second cutter back screen lob counter if he can get up despite his acl injury. Really interested in a before and after with fletch. He’s got more weight room time he can put in than most while he’s rehabbing. It’d be ideal if he dropped from like 260 to 250 but got stronger.

I’ll admit, even a broke clock is right 3 times a day. This isn’t the typical BU recruit. He just wanted a body at this point. Give you fouls on the defensive end. But this will not be your typical recruit. Staff isn’t as concerned to fill anymore spots. But they do ya e a few more lines out Incase them fish feels like a biting. Mama always says, even when supper is on the table, ain’t no reason not to get the icebox stocked. Always room in the icebox. Time will tell if we get it stocked.

But know this. Next year, those lines switch from catfish, to trout. Gotta get the fly rods out while the gettin is good in the mif.

Different from our other pieces and can certainly contribute if healthy. Good addition.

As coach Rich Herrin use to say...."you can teach them to shoot, you can teach them how to pass, you can even teach them how to dribble, but you can't teach them how to be 7' tall"

Makes sense. I just wish he could soak up some minutes in Maui. Maybe that's possible, we'll see.

I just want to get to conference play without too many 40 point losses. Don't give these kids a reason to give up.

40 point losses... that was what would be happening with Groce as head coach. New man in charge. Last year we didn't get the win loss record we wanted but at least most of the games weren't decided by half. I am thankful the roster has been purged. I look forward to see how this team does this year. Glad to see many new faces on the court.

Look, we’re not good right now, but this team isn’t going to get crushed by 40. Those days are gone. Even last year, Wisconsin, PSU and the 2nd half of MSU were the only “blowouts” we suffered.

So what's the over/under on 40 point losses in the noncon?

3? 4?...

I'll go with the under.

These guys may take some losses early on, but I don't see them getting punked on the court.

We may go 0-3 in Maui, but we aren't going to get toasted by 40.

After talking to one of Underwood's former players from the 90's, the roster turnover was definitely coaching staff driven. Taking a chance on a guy in his fourth school in 6 years with a torn ACL says a lot about the staff's feelings of the 2017-2018 roster.

Onward and upward, let's hope he's healthy and has a good year at Illinois. Go Illini!

You got me. Like my childish, insincere trolling last season when I predicted our final Big Ten record on the nose in December. Oh the howls of laughter and derision. Patently absurd to not realize how much better we were going to get during the season.

But now of course it was SELF EVIDENT that all of our best players were actually awful talentless scrubs who no coach could ever dream of winning with and who simply must be purged from the roster.

i bet you’re still waiting for your certificate of achievement from Josh Whitman. With your precision and knowledge we may be able to predict seasons without these kids ever having to play those pesky games. ;)

Do you want a cookie? I'm not sure if you've noticed but we have, like, a different roster this year, man. We also didn't get blown out much last year anyway, which was an improvement, sadly.
