This just came out. Deon Thomas interving Dee about all things Illini Basketball culture.

Deon had a comment about not knowing Bruce Weber (or at least, not very well). How can that be? How, as a coach, do you not have a relationship with all-time greats?

Deon was living overseas, I would guess.

Just wanted to discuss Trent and DaMonte and how great they are at “digs.” They must jar half a dozen balls loose per game between the 2 of them. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen 2 better. It’s uncanny.

Deon was playing in Israel for the first half of Weber's tenure. There was certainly a better opportunity once he came back to the U.S. and started coaching at Lewis and Clark.

With all the talk about adding more guards via new recruits and transfers, and potentially already having too many quality guards on the roster for next year, can someone chime in about Padilla? I know he's just a walk-on, but I seem to recall some discussion about how he could have easily gotten on scholarship somewhere else. How good is he really? Could he break into the rotation for next year (assuming Trent and DMW don't come back)?

I tried to find some highlights of him playing, but came up empty. There are interviews out there, but not much in-game footage that I can find.

My search did bring me to this reel of Belo as a junior:

The best is yet to come for him. His potential is just off the charts.

I just remember when he was “signed” that it was mentioned he was mentioned as being not your typical walk-on and has some international experience too. If you look at the comments section of the recent YouTube video of the Illini-Mich game. Someone was pasted some comment about how good Padilla was going to be after each comment. Thought that was pretty funny and strange.

In the games ive seen him he appears to be reallly short and hasnt shown much of anything. Granted the garbage minutes in a game are not really conducive to light it up but
To me he seems like a serviceable snacks jr.

Just had a chance to watch Deon interview Dee. Man, two Illini greats! Watched Deon when I was an undergrad, so he is near the top of my all time favorites. Dee probably holds the top spot, though, as the guy just exudes orange and blue and is one of the most loyal guys there is. We need him back in the program! Always great to hear from him!

I'm not savvy enough to link the Instagram post here, but anyone on instagram should check out the IlliniMB page and watch @slimjake knock down 35 threes in a row during shoot around at OSU. The excitement of the whole team will brighten anyone's day.

I remember earlier in the season when Jay Bilas said on TV and I quote "They sure do lose a lot being so highly ranked" end quote referring about Illinois losing early in the season .
Them games are what has made Illinois a better team since losing them early .

We should all appreciate the commitment that these student-athletes have shown in going all season, during a historic season, of staying home. In a normal year, these guys would be having a TON of fun given their success and they have let it go. to. win. I said on another thread that they are bought in...they are that.

Thanks for the share good stuff, learned somethings I never knew or heard.
But all things said , maybe not the greatest Illinois`s men`s best basketball player ever (in peoples minds or opinions) , but without doubt "MY" all time favorite Illinois men`s basketball player (hands down-always my biggest man crush has been with Gill) and for sure one the greatest to ever lace em -up for our Beloved Fighting Illini`.
Again thanks for the share ChoclateThunder....
