BRAVO.....................that is about as perfect a post as i have seen in along time stating facts about incoming recruits and not castrating DMW in the process....

I was not a supporter of DMW a couple years ago and got banned for going way over the edge about it........I will humbly state I deserved my ban and when i got to come back I started to think before i posted any thing that popped into my fragile mind...........

DMW does things that WIN ball games .....nuff said for me.........

I guarantee BU isn't playing DMW out of respect for staying the course with the Illini......BU is playing DMW because he wins ball games and makes plays that support that thought........Whether it's blocked shots or big 3's , DMW is a winner and that's enough for me.....

Also , your thoughts on Trent are spot on...........He is such a great image and ambassador for the Illini and I hope he comes back as a GA and eventually becomes part of the staff setting on the bench coaching future Illini.......Trent will hold them to a high standard to represent the Illini program , as high as he has done for 5 years now ........love me some Trent Frazier .......I really really really do............................

I respect your JMHO, but I posted the DMW stats as a factual, measurable point for discussion. The “wins games for us“ is begging for supporting data. Wish we had a WAR stat like baseball does. How many games has he won for us versus how may games has his anemic offense cost us?
I want to make one more point and that is based on a business concept called opportunity cost.
What if DMW had not come back for a fifth year. Who would get his ticks and would we be a better tournament team?
It is really hard to see any DMW improvement during this season while there are others who will be here NEXT year who might have benefitted THIS year from his minutes.

That's what its all about.

Good teams have guys who give 100% regardless of how they are used on offense. DMW understands his role as well as anyone. He doesn't hunt shots, likely because he realizes his limitations. You can throw him on literally anyone 1-3, and they are gonna have a tough day. If he doesn't get shots up, its because defenses are respecting his ability to knock down open 3's. This helps keep the lane open for Kofi to operate, and others to drive.

Our most efficient offense, (9 games out of 10) is getting the ball to Kofi. Making successful entry passes to the post is a wildly under-rated skill for us. DMW is one of the best at getting the ball to the big guy.

As I respect your thoughts...thanks for saying that and i agree with parts of your post.......The minutes this year if he hadn't came back is an interesting thought that begs exploration ......I have always stated that RJ needs more minutes .......would RJ getting some of that tick made any difference
in the W-L record ???.......I also think Podz needs more tick as he is a battler and has bought into the defensive aspect of college BB fully......Luke probably is the most qualified of the three as far as overall ability to step into DMW's role , but it is what it is and only conjecture at this point...

I , in no way , was taking you to task on your thoughts..........Maybe court time might be different if the season hadn't started with the Kofi suspension and Belo getting injured ....who really knows .........But I believe PPG is not as accurate a stat about a player's worth to the team as some here do......
It might be interesting to examine the +/- stats of this years games to understand better.....Some have drawn down on CoHawk and then BU states he has a + 17 for that game....BU is stats driven and plays those who give us the best chance to win .....i don't agree with all his decisions but support his reasoning behind it..

respect my decision™
My hope is the maturation of Melendez/Goode/Podz and Rodgers coming in mitigates if not entirely nullifies losing DW on the defensive end while giving us a boost on O. Losing Trent is an entirely different matter, although Epps looks college-ready and like he could become a solid defender. Also, the portal.
Yeah, hopium is powerful. I have a good deal of it WRT our frosh and signees. But often there's no substitute for experience.

He’s not going to be ready by the end of this year, needs more seasoning.
(fingers crossed)
I agree, he missed out on a lot of the season and he will want a year without Kofi and the NIL money will be there. Plus, a year of vying for B1G player of the year and National POY might be enough to get him to stay one more year.

Hate to look ahead but can see both us and Purdue running the table leading up to the game next month...Like how we matchup with our next few games a lot more than Purdue. Curbelo being back makes us near impossible to guard with Kofi on the floor

I like how we match up with Purdue with a more honed Curbelo and a more calm Kofi. We obviously can't out-muscle them on the post, but we have other advantages over them. I think it's a pretty even match.

agreed, very even between us both. Really like how we matchup with MSU And Wiscy too.

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I think we smoke Wisconsin and MSU at home if the boys are locked in (I have no doubt they will in the “avenge Ayo” game). Wisconsin was obliterated by Kofi last year with much more seasoned bigs. MSU made Ryan Young, who has the best dad bod in the B10, look like Kevin McHale.

Frankly, the looming Maryland game worries me the most out of the next four, those games are always rock fights and they always have some dude who has played disinterested ball the previous 15 games suddenly become prime D Wade to stay close.

Some fun facts about WS/40:
  • Last season, Ayo had .207
  • This season's leaders on the team are: Cockburn (.309), Lieb (.244), Melendez (.208), Grandison (.203). I assume several of those are due to small sample size during garbage time.
  • The only person on the team with negative WS/40 is Connor Serven (-.004)

Sample size problem for sure. With so few minutes any positive impact is amplified. Also an unrepresentative sample, as it is garbage time

Interestingly DMW is not faring very well in WS this season, but he was 4th on the team last season in WS/40, ahead of Belo and Trent.
I am not sure it is that interesting. Dmw was great last year. Maybe since he is playing a different role (more point) he hasn’t been all great this year and imo not deserving of the number of minutes received.

The team needed him to do more. Frankly, they needed him to do things that he isn't great at, which has negatively affected his advanced stats. If BU thought someone else would be better at it, someone else would have gotten those minutes. Remember, BU put DMW on the bench at the end of last year when AC earned the starting spot. If someone else deserved those minutes, I believe BU would have given them to them.

With AC back in the fold, DMW should be able to get back to concentrating on doing the things he is good at.
